Ouch, hope he is ok, and the bikes not in too bad a way.
thats why i didn't want to take my bike, that far into gravel and fairings would be a goner, best reason for a naked!
well done for being the fastest, i'd have been surprised if you hadn't

hero
I especially enjoy the no-bullsh1t-doing-it rather than just talking about it approach.
Knees down, fastest there and spading daves old polished bike - no fannying about

Popped up at the beginning of the night to to pick up front pads from Campbell.
Looks like it dried out a bit after a while, funny to see you cutting through the pack of race replicas, incredible to watch especially knowing you'd only done about 700 miles since passing your test!
Sorry to see you had an off but looks like no harm done and I guess you expected it whilst exploring the limits of the bike.
I give you 2 months before your looking for a track biased Race Rep

Bravo Neil.
So you have ticked off:
- knee down
- grin for the photographer
- beating most of the other people out there on the night
- going into the gravel on your ass
What's left to conquer?!

Rumours of my death have been greatly exagerated
I'm fine folks, bike will be fine once dave polishes out a few scuffs. need some new straight handlebars.
Anyway, enough about the bad bits. Bike trackdays are fricking awesome
I cant wait to get back out there. It started with a wet track, albeit the rain was off. I was third going out, with a massive queue of race replica sports bike behind me, all revving there loud exhausts. We had 2 laps behind pace car, where they weeved to build tyre temp, then we were off. I was as surprised as anybody to be able to just follow the 2 guys in front, as the race rep crowd dissappeared in my rear view mirror. I started slowly, as i said i would, i started to build the pace, doing what i do in the car, chipping away at braking markers, then, when braking as late as possible, starting to brake less, and carry more corner speed. I decided to overtake the guy at the front, so i could concentrate on wht i was doing. I ended up catching up with the tail end of the race rep crowd, so a few nifty wee outbraking manouvers saw them all lapped.
A dry line appeared, which spread to a mainly dry track, except for a line at the bottom of duffus (the left hander) where there was a 2 foot band of dry line through a damp patch. All was going well until i drifted 2" to the right at the left hander, rear tyre touched the damp bit, spun up, put me sideways on full lock, at which point it gripped, through me over the highside (ala lorenzo and stoner at laguna seca) and skiting down the track. From what i can piece together, i landed on the back of my helmet, then back/elbows, then bum, then feet. I remember punching the bike away from me as we slid down towards macintyres, as we started to get tangles up. then, the bike dug into the mud and stopped, i hit the gravel, rolled a few times, and ended up on my front. Tried to get up, but was totally winded, so ended up just crawling away from the bike. By the time FD got the shot, i had my helmet and gloves off to try and help me breathe, and was shortly up and away into the ambulance.
Was a bit of a pisser to an otherwise great night. It was obviously my fault, but i would say i was a bit unlucky. I hadnt been taking chances, i was building up slowly (albeit most people thought i was nuts) and i dont think it was inevitable. There was 2" between me being a hero, but i ended up a zero. Hey ho. sh*t happens, i'm fine, the bike isnt all that bad, and i'll be back up to KH for a rematch after french frolic.
cheers to all the friends who were up to cheer me on. glad i gave you something to laugh about

We'll have the bike back to perfect in no time matey... it's just a wee flesh wound...
Definitely keen to join you soon... but not until I have the budget to fix it when I drop it ... until then I'll keep up the excuses..
Congrats though!! You were definitely the happiest guy out there!!

(oh and thanks for validating the girlfriend's opinions of bike trackdays for newbie bikers btw...
