ANYONE BEEN TO OULTON PARK?

Post by Nig The Stig » Tue Oct 13, 2009 11:43 am

Asking the above as I'm heading down to Oulton Park for a trackday on the 27th Oct and looking for peoples views/opinions on it and any advice as I've not driven this track before, cheers.

Several of us have done it many times, its one of our favourite tracks. I just drive around it, but Robin et al will be able to give you a breakdown of it and some tips.

Couple of corners you have to treat with extra respect especially if it is slippery.

Great track. Watch out over the top of clay hill and massive reduction in grip into Druids.

Think it was the 28th October we were there last year and it snowed. Good luck.

I think that was the only time I have ever really scared myself on track, as I had so long waiting for the car to hit the barrier. I was going up Clay Hill just after the Bridge, full throttle, snow had started, and I lost the back end. No chance of recovery so I sat there as a spectator whilst the car went through 360's along the track with me watching the left hand barrier on each turn and wondering when I was going to hit it.

However she stayed on the black stuff and finally stopped in the middle but almost blind to the cars coming up the hill and round the bend from behind. Fortunately I did not have to chicken out of going back on again, as they closed the track for the snow and the power cut, so Craig and I went home when it looked as if that was the end of the day.

Great circuit and all the above is spot on.

If it is wet, treat Druids with respect including the bump on exiting - and also watch for standing water under the bridge between Druids and Lodge - can accumulate there in the lunch break, as I found out by aquaplaning right over it

I've been twice. It's a fantastic trick, second only to Cadwell I think, but it doesn't half claim cars!
Both of the times I've been there's been an enormous number of pranged cars, including mine!

I have an in-car video of a lap round there you can see if you like.

Excellent, I think I prefer it to Cadwell. It is also relatively easy to get to for us Northerners.
However, I am off to Cadwell a week tomorrow as best to visit each at least once a year :thumbsup .

There are certainly some fast and scary corners at Oulton (eg Druids), but also a few places where you can push hard with not too much risk (eg Hislops chicane) and a few bits I never really got to grips with in my 3 previous visits (e.g. that banked Shell Oils corner).

Loved the track though it was COOOOOOOOLD in the 7.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

its a stunning track - LOT visit there on 12/12 and its merely £125 :D

Probably my favoruite track in the UK - as has been mentioned watch Druids if its wet - can be like driving on ice.

Apart from that, you could spend days there. Racing it, well that was just awesome! :cheers
