Scotty is flavour of the month at present.
Turned up two nights on the trot with lorry loads of log lengths, must be three ton or more, and unloaded and stacked them all himself.

Re: LoT November 23/24 2012 Oulton Park/Anglesey Coastal
Had to head immediately north last Sunday, for an exciting course in Aberdoom, therefore I’ve only just had the opportunity to stick some thoughts down regarding the trip.
Thursday:
Having already collected Egor from Mr Fisics on Wednesday evening, Routemaster Ford and myself had plotted an early getaway, to arrive down in Northwich for 14:00 in order to tie in with Campbell’s work commitments.
A severe weather warning of biblical rain, peaking in the morning, put paid to that, and an alternative plan to meet at Abington services around 16:00 was hatched.
I set off in heavy rain, and quickly discovered that Egor’s blower motor was u/s, which meant visibility was rather restricted and I had no means of heating the cabin…Interesting, when driving on a busy / waterlogged / freezing M74…(!)
A quick pitstop at Abington, and an application of Rain X / an extra jumper improved matters no end, and what followed was an uneventful run down to Sandiway, bar a slight brown trouser moment when hitting a small unsighted river at speed, while detouring down the old Carlisle road to avoid an accident. (Walshy ninja skillz were employed).
Arriving at the Premier Inn, where the advance party were well settled, we had time for a quick libation, while I sorted the transport for ten to the Indian restaurant– Which turned out to be a fully labeled up school minibus.
SE roll in style as always, with added cool points for the driver’s music selection and Benny’s backing vocals.
One bum burner curry later, and back for a fairly subdued nightcap at the hotel – Oulton’s the sort of place you really need your wits about you.
Friday:
07:45 start in the carpark, and we’re greeted with a bright sunny morning… and a layer of ice over the cars – Which bodes for interesting track conditions!
Amble off down to Little Budworth, and the driver briefing – There’s a reasonable turn out, but I have a feeling a few may have been dissuaded by the prospect of a greasy / icy Oulton in November – Their loss!
Sighting laps dealt with, what followed was the sort of day only Oulton can provide – It really is the best circuit in the British Isles.

Fairly ‘green’ in the morning, the grip improved as the day progressed, which made it even more challenging and rewarding to drive. For example, Old Hall was dry all the way from turn in, to just around the apex… Then greasy and wet out to the clipping point, which made for a few interesting moments…Druids was surprisingly grippy, especially in the afternoon.

I enjoyed some entertaining laps with Mr G in the GT3 (amazing car – like a big Exige, with 415bhp), and Mr Boag in the Boagster S (neat & tidy as always).
Pretty much everyone managed to keep it on the black stuff, with few red flags and a couple of mechanical maladies.
Day done, the SE group spilt, with the vast majority heading for Welsh Wales to seek out the sheep with the prettiest eyes.
Myself, Campbell, Kelvin and Kevin stayed another night in Sandiway, and a sensible evening was had, with an eye on the 05:30 start the following morning.
Saturday:
Up at 05:30, for a 06:00 departure down to Anglesey – Again, a thick layer of ice over the cars greeted us, which definitely encouraged cautious progress.
The trip down the A55 took us through the Penmaenbach and Pen-y-clip tunnels, which gave the run a very continental / Alpine feel.

A quick fuel / Little Chef pitstop 40 miles from the circuit, and it was back on the road to Anglesey.
On arrival, only Ali C had made it in time for the briefing – Citing tales of drunken debauchery, and stonking hangovers affecting the SE massive.
It became apparent that the vast majority of track dayer’s in the briefing hadn’t visited Anglesey before, and therefore the instructors were booked up solid for the day – We’d have to work out the lines ourselves.
Just as the briefing ended, the rest of the SE crew turned up, for a second sitting. Sighting laps complete, it was time to work out how best to get around the track…
Anglesey is good fun – Nowhere near the polish & class of Oulton, but does have its challenges none the less; highlights for me were the run through Church up to Rocket – Egor was showing 110-115mph on the speedo prior to braking for the second gear / 30 mph hairpin at Rocket. The Corkscrew is amusing too, with lots of scope for hanging the tail out, if that’s your thing (it wasn’t mine, in a borrowed car!)

Had a good after-lunch session, lapping with Campbell & Kinger, but I struggled to carry speed through Peel corner all day (a few big slides had made me wary), and was dropping a few seconds a lap there, which was a bit frustrating.
(Recorded on an old iPhone, so excuse the quality!)
Called it a day at 15:00, and said our goodbyes before heading north – Weather forecasts were predicting that most of Wales & the midlands would be under a foot of water come early evening, and we were on a mission to beat the weather front as it travelled northwards.
Thankfully we made good time, and seemed to miss the worst of it – A clear run had me pulling into the drive at 20:40; frozen solid (driving an Elise in minus temperatures with no heater does keep you awake!), but otherwise intact.
What an awesome few days – Thanks to Robin for his generosity; Egor broke its Oulton duck by not breaking down this time, and performed faultlessly over the trip.
First time I’ve driven an Elise in over 2 years, and I’d forgotten what amazing little cars they are.
Also great to see all the SE gang, both old & new faces – The SE November Oulton trip’s a great tradition.
I really hope to be back in something track worthy next year (The S2000’s fun, but too lardy for serious track work), and I’m looking forward to it massively.
Roll on Spa!

Great right up Ross.
Just one point of correction, young Scott and I made the first briefing too ( I was hiding in the corner in case anyone could smell my breath). That was the only thing I managed in the morning. Even had to drive straight to the loo's after one morning session, oh god I was suffering badly after The Friday night. Enjoyed the afternoon a bit more but I was totally shattered.
Next double header and I'll leave the late night to the younger members.
Hope to make the proposed Oulten, Cadwell / Donny day.
Cheers
