Heard a rumour the Rosyth ferry is finishing in December for good. Had hoped to get a deal on that booking so far in advance...
only problem with the Geordie express is that we are heading for the South of France - and it takes the best bit of 18 hours.

As much as i hate driving South of Newcastle, the chunnel is so much better for flexible/travel times.

Dave, its 1067 miles from your house to Orange via dover. Its 855 via newcastle. I dont think the saved 212 miles are worth the extra cash for the ferry, or the extra 17 hours you spend on it

It might be worth going via rosyth, as it cuts the journey down to 630 miles.

edit, feck that, its 420 quid for the ferry :O

Depends on where we want to get to first, but unless it's a country north of France, I cannot see that you'll get there quicker on the ferry.

Now if you want to beer it up with the slappers all night, be my guest ...

My preference is one long day driving, beer, next morning to the track or the mountains, depending on which tracks we're doing and what order we're doing them in ... we've done it often enough now to know that 900 miles is easily possible in a day provided you start early (03:00 latest).

I do think 1100 miles is pushing it, but we did it on the way home this year and had some of the worst weather I've ever driven in, still made it home without needing more than maybe one Monster, so worst case, even if we need to head straight for Ledenon, we could.

Can we go yet??

Cheers,
Robin

Rosyth ferry dies this year, unless taken over by someone else, but unlikely.......

urgh.

The last time I did that Dover run I promised it would be the last.... it's sooooooo boring. Surely there must be a better way to get to the south of France in the car that I just don't know about yet?!? Personally I prefer miles on the continent to the UK... at least you get to see some new sights and stuff!

The Rosyth ferry is great in theory, but as it's about to die and stupidly expensive anyway, probably not an option.

If the Geordie express is out too.... looks like it's the Dover run again. Arse. I could try the 3am Robinape Run, but Davey don't normally do mornings unless it's an emergency!!

the BEST way is to either pay a company to transport it for you (expensive) or pay someone else to drive it out for you with a flight back for them, and a flight out for you.

That's no fun though.

I want to drive 30 mins through to Rosyth. Sit on the deck watching the bridges go overhead and watching Edinburgh etc go by, whilst drinking a cold beer in the Sun. Then have a bit of food, some more beers, go to bed and wake up as the ferry nears its destination.... preferably only an hour or two drive from the 1st hotel. All for only a few £s.

Now go make it happen!!!

10 months to go :cheers

Ape - still hatching my cunning plan :thumbsup (and may kidnap Tut and drag him along too.

Stunned at the SE turnout for next year - could be a classic.

Definately toying with looking at how to get the car to Nice and then fly out, especially as I'll most likely use the new track shed :thumbsup

You see almost nothing of Englandshire as it's dark for most of the way, if that helps?

One year I did the drive from Edinburgh to Dover, roof off and shorts, starting at 3am - that might have been optimistic - especially as Egor's heater doesn't work - I was frozen by the time I got to Dover :-) But the view was spectacular over the lakes as, for once, it wasn't cloudy all the way and the moon/stars were awe inspiring as ever.

If you're really dreading all the driving, get a co-driver and do it in shifts?

I like the long distance driving in a way, so I'm perhaps not the best person to ask ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

If not already, you can add me to the 6 honarary SE'rs. :thumbsup
Yesterday night I checked latest posts on Blitzkrieg Euro tour when my eye fell on the FF10 thread.
Needles to say I was more than happy to be on of the last to jump aboard of the FF anniversary edition. Just in time! :cheers
