Thought the marshals would ask me to take the plastic bug off the dashboard (one of my friends decided the car was called "Bug" on account of the unsubtle green, then that appeared!), although it's pretty firmly stuck down, but they either didn't notice or care!

Re: SIDC 26th March
Had a great time! Still getting used to the Cup, but it's plenty quick for me. If I wasn't keeping up, can't blame the car!

What car did you have c8rkh, that was my fist go too but you must have been quicker than me 'cause I didn't catch up with anyone, the good thing about that was, I had lots of corners with nobody around.
Re: SIDC 26th March
A big thanks to all who took my friends of varying shapes and sizes out! They had a great time, and said that you were all very friendly and kind..... Obviously didn't get to know any of you that well.

My first track day
Warm up laps were leading the track even though I've spectated quite a few times. I took it easy to start with, gradually picking up speed, finding braking points and trying to find correct lines, by the end of the morning I was getting more and more confident within my capabilities. I couldn't get a hold of the instructor though as he was quite busy.
My 111s performed brilliantly throughout the day and I can't wait till the next one.
There was a nice selection of cars and owners willing to take the time to show you round their toys.
I'd like to thank John and the people at knockhill for a cracking day.

"Did anyone chaperone His Tutness home?"
Made it safe and sound thanks Campbell.
Rain and standing water was really bad on the A90 approaching dangerous, so decided to take the back roads. KH to Keith is also 30 miles less in a straight line than going via Aberdeen. Glenshee was very wet but it had dried out by Braemar and I had a great run over the Lecht then Tomintoul and Dufftown.
Slowed down to 30 then got the blues and a siren behind me from a bloody old Landrover. He was just leaving his house in Tomnavoulin when I went through so he took off after me. I never bother with the speedo on those roads, we just drive the bends so you don't get upto big speeds as there are no straights. He said he was doing over 90, but that was probably just trying to catch up with me which he could not do until I hit the 30. However he was fine, no lecture, said that my driving was good and safe, just to keep an eye on the speedo. Think he actually enjoyed putting his foot down and catching up with an Elise. The car drives beautifully on the road, think that I actually enjoyed it as much as the track, those roads almost make a better one as they are so empty.
Knackered now though and typing from bed, was up at 0400 and got a lot of track time in plus six hours on the road so hardly surprising. Thanks again for all the work on the car Craig, it was well worth it as she never put a foot wrong.

ps:- think that I can safely claim the passenger record. Dom's friend was 6' 9" and well over 20 stone. Could not change gear so just left it in 4th all the way round.

Glad you're back safe.
I can confirm that the "direct route" from Central Scotland to Tut End is the intelligent choice almost all the time except perhaps when the Glenshee snow gates are shut. Brilliant route and from Glenshee summit to Dufftown is one of the greatest stretches of tarmac north of the A701.
Glad you enjoyed your day and especially chuffed that N3 didn't put a foot wrong. But that's only cos Craig was there with his beady eye on it, the car daren't put a foot wrong with Mr Spanner watching on intently eh....

I was in a red Evora - a 2010 NA, not the S. I got out the way plenty of times for people, just hope I didnae get in the way of anyone. Knockhill was a great circuit, even for a first time knoobie like me.Super7 wrote:What car did you have c8rkh, that was my fist go too but you must have been quicker than me 'cause I didn't catch up with anyone, the good thing about that was, I had lots of corners with nobody around.

Re: SIDC 26th March
Great day out today and magic fun at Knockhill.
Thanks to everyone for being mindful of the two track day novices that we are also using my Elise.finally managed to get Craig out on track driving which I reckon saves him about £100 a lap compare to the amount of clothes he ruins trying to fix everyone's car in the pit lane for them when he's not driving
Delighted to let the mechanically sympathetic Ape behind the wheel as he also picked up the same issue I was having with the suspension. The little Honda least didn't miss a beat. Nitrons needed.
Drove Kennys Zenos which was great fun. It was instantly apparent that all the engineers or X Caterham and X Lotus. Not sure who is responsible for the brake pedal and that car but for the first lap you have no idea what it's doing. Magic fund though and beautifully balanced
Superb turn out so hoping the next few SIDC days will be just a sociable and hopefully the SE contingent Will condition to grow given how much the other drivers Of my Elise enjoyed today.
Drove Home in the new Porsche 911 Carrera 2S which is miles better than the last standard non-GT Porsche that I drove. Forget the concerns about turbocharging it is Head and shoulders better than the last carrera I drove.
Great day guys....now which track day have we decided to do in April?

Couple of laps with Martin, I was holding him up but it was nice trying to keep up once I released him!
Video was uploaded from my phone and the compression seems a bit rubbish

Cool, I used to have one exactly like that but I never took the chance to track it. A red evora passed me on the dueller just before i turned off for knockhill, might have been you, it looked awesome on the road, How did your tyres stand up on track?c8rkh wrote:I was in a red Evora - a 2010 NA, not the S. The thing I found most challenging was watching for faster cars behind, without my doors on the 7, I'm left with a tiny vibrating rear view mirror, in which, 3/4 of the field of vision is obscured by my seemingly massive head. Even with the doors on , the wing mirrors are rubbish and only provide an odd blurry glance of the future victim of my accident
This usually meant, I'd bodge up the entry to the first corner after the straight and hold everyone up, I got a bit faster nearer the end and proved to myself I could handle all the corners beautifully...but I've yet to do a whole tidy lap. My tyres were ancient, (15 years old), they performed well but that's finished them.
Re: SIDC 26th March
That was probably Andy's mate Baz, Graham.
He was out learning with the Instructor, who was a little late correcting him going down Duffus when I was behind him, as he took me a little by surprise with his line.

Re: SIDC 26th March
I popped up for a few hours to say hi as I was on daddy daycare duty. As others have said I can't remember seeing so many SE folk in the one place before. Even though bits did feel a bit like a crèche!
Driving standards looked fantastic from where I was standing and I particularly enjoyed the two sc elises (dark blue and red) chasing the v12 vantage for lap after lap. That looked ace fun.
First outing for the evora with Sam in the back and a person (well, woody) in the pax seat and it was just perfect... Even if I had to drop the pace to avoid a repeat of the sick produced in the way up!
Car sounded ace when you blasted past Campbell!
