Thats the difference between racing and trackdays. Andy has to optimise pressures for the whole race whereas on a trackday you can come in and check and adjust pressures after 3-4 laps hence always closer to the optimum.

A lot of people set pressures too low and just get undue wear on the edges of the tyres.
I drove my Exige as hard as anyone and always started with normal road pressures and used the pyro and find the optimum (hot) pressures. This will differ for the conditions, track, car, geo setup and driving style etc.

If you have no pyro an alternative method is (after warm up and continually throughout the day) set the hot pressures to that of the lowest one (usually front right).

Any references to laptimes, speed or driving on the public highway are purely for dramatic effect.

Done the track day on the 16th. Started with 22F, 24R cold. After 20 laps, they were up to 30F and 34R! Ended up running 22F, 24R hot, without much understeer (at the speed I was driving).

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.
