It's often beneficial to have a few regulars attend these type of events as well so that others can follow their lines, braking points etc and learn from them.

Currently we've got less than 20 cars booked up for the 4 hour session on the 10th July at Knockhill if that's of interest to any beginners?

John,

I must admit my main anxiety for the novice event will be getting enough to make it financially viable. Teaming up with the SIDC day is certainly worth exploring further but there needs to be some way to reassure the newbies - or to restrain the regulars! - so that everyone gets the best out of their day with no offs.

I wonder if there could be any support for sessioning? Not usually done on club days at KH, I know, but 20 min sessions which alternate between "novice" and "experienced" would protect both factions whilst still allowing probably about the same amount of tracktime as usual (apart from the real diehards...)

Or perhaps even just make the first 2 hours sessioned.

Any thoughts, anyone?

John just about to PM you, as need to pick your brains!

I'm glad to see the interest on here, wasn't sure how this idea would be taken.

What we've done in the past is indeed to have a 30 minute session at the start of the event for beginners only, then after 15 minutes let one or two regulars out to drive at 80 - 90% to give those on track experience of being caught, and to follow their lines and braking points. Then with 5 - 10 minutes to go, let out another couple of (hand picked) regulars. This allows those on track to experience a slightly busier track with faster cars, and by now all should have 15 - 20 laps under their belt and getting to grips with driving on track. Regulars could pax with the beginners and point out all the usual things, and we would have the instructor available as well, though we would probably have to limit him to 3 or 4 laps at a time to get around as many people - though he would be available for the whole event.

As we've got lower numbers for this event, I'd be happy to say allocate a 20 - 30 minute session between 9:15 and 9:35/45am to beginners only, and then after that open things up. We would also have a beginners only warm up group so they could get a few laps at the start, so they don't start their session with a completely cold car and tyres.

Do you think there would be enough interest ?

John

Im sure i speak for a few people but I think that suggestion would be perfect and if you get enough takers to make it worth your while count me in as a definate.

the idea of a half hour ourselves to learn the track would be great, (also bearing in mind there will be catching up and passing practice due to different natural abilities) then knowing the fast guys around are expecting us to be slower for the next 10-20 mins would be great.

Think it sounds ideal, a lot less intimidating, a good chance to meet some people and get some tuition and also a lot less pressure to be on the pace through the sections with no overtaking.

Hopefully the timescale isnt too short notice to get some numbers together.

cheers

Sadly I'll be down south for work, would have been happy to sit in pax seats at this and impart what little knowledge I have.

There is a 50:50 possibility that I could get along to lend a hand...but very much dependent on some family commitments and support for a wedding later that weekend, at which I am going to be Best Man

I imagine there will be several others far more qualified than me, of course, and I'll be with you all in spirit. Think this is a great initiative.

if we can get around 10 confirmed as taking part, then consider this a done deal :)

Just need your help to let other people/forums know about this to encourage more first timers along.

I've signed up for AMP3 to be my first track experience. Partly I'm doing it due to the charity angle, and with life being so expensive (only a single pay cheque coming in), finding another £100 might be a little difficult. I've answered 'yes' as I expect the track bug might become pretty moreish after AMP3, and I'm sure I'll be pulling over most of the time for that one so some space and slower cars might be welcome.

EDIT: Doh just seen the date put forward of the tenth. TBH this is too close for me to make...sorry.

John,

I'll be there - I may even be able to stretch to getting the car on track too, but it not I'm happy to sit with someone and give them directions (which is about the limit of my ability)

Cheers

Happy to help out and take part John, but N3 is U/S at the moment, not something that I can put it into John Duthie for, and Mikie, Alan, and Craig are pretty busy with their own projects at present.

Why not get N1 down on a trailer especially for the occasion Tut :D

A certain Mr Jones is taking part, and I know you relish being out on track with him :)

Don't go encouraging him, John, I saw N1 in the garage at TT and it NEEDS to stay that pristine :-)
