Thought I was keeping up with you ok through the twisties Mass :D :blackeye
lol...you don't need a 340r to keep up with Mass-destruction <BG>
Mass-destruction WILL not happen. All fingers crossed :damnfunny

Joking apart, this new engine feels good.

Gareth, if you have calculated you need a beem with a surface are of 100mm squared. What size of beam can you use ?

Alan Out
You've been playing with Colin too much.
Your posts make as much sense as his. i.e. don't make sense.

SIDC 19th March

Alan (the guy who gave Colin 245bhp :( )
I was surprised how quickly it pulled away leaving the hairpin.

I'll just need to check it into the Gourlay garage for some of the same magic!

Cheers

Believe yours is a jdm engine, so an over the top manifold and maybe an rbc inlet with mapping should get you close. You have a longer manifold with jdm anyway so the exhaust and mapping should help.

Colin has custom cams which help things along....

Sounds about right, so the cams are giving an extra 10 bhp. It all depends on the dyno as well, its better to compare apples with apples.

Doesn't really matter though. Different place, probably different calibration, different temp, air density - that all makes a significant percentage difference when you're talking about 5-10 horsepower.

to be fair we are talking about sanjoy and colin so its not going to make any difference.

My car at the same rolling road made 195 bhp at the wheels (lets forget engine horse power, whp is the figure you use) Colins made just over 215 bhp. So the better cams and manifold made 20 whp which is a good reasonable increase. That's what I was meaning with "comparing apples with apples"

I've heard people say there standard engine with an exhaust makes 250 bhp, complete Bollocks imo. Some dynos/tuners seem to get these high figures but what's annoying is everyone compares the figures to them.

Pet hate :D

Alan,
Do you use the Emerald ECU in the Honda conversions ?

You can fudge those figures easily if you use wheel horse power. Tyre pressures and stuff make a major difference. That's why a decent operator uses a run-down measurement and not some arbitrary percentage fudge to get flywheel horsepower - that's about as close as you'll get to a level playing field. Of course, the only properly accurate way is to bolt the engine into an engine dyno with the same exhaust as it uses in the car, but that's a touch silly...

The Wallace performance dyno is a dastek and uses coast down to calculate engine horse power.

I agree with what your saying though, some of calculated engine horse power figures I've seen are just wild.
