See you there, just make sure your impact cut off switch (or whatever it was called) doesn't fail this time eh?!
You're not bringing your toolkit this trip then?
I remember missing the first beer because of that $@!* switch failing.

@Andy,
I've seen you calling a mechanic to ask where it's located in your car, on the same car park the year after. No wonder you know how it's called!

For the ones going to the ring on friday , the following might be interesting:

The official Ring site shows no touristfahrt on the 12th anymore!
http://www.nuerburgring.gosign.de/?id=2347

The reason:

http://www.driving-fun.com/958/active/1 ... e-hel.aspx

Translated text from the DF site with google (please don't fuzz about the dodgy spelling to me) :
On Friday, November 12, we organize our first trackday on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. A unique event because it is the first time Driving-fun.com in collaboration with the Belgian Skylimit full afhuurt Nordschleife. No riders, no buses, but to ride with slicks or semi-slicks under your car or even your race!

And the best, full speed ahead on Döttinger Höhe. That alone is a unique experience because the ring lover does not really sorry that you are on the fastest part of the Nordschleife in a Touristenfahrten you must again?

We ride these days from 9:00 to 11:00 in groups of 5 to 8-car pace car laps behind instructors at a reasonable pace will give the lines. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the free riding in the open pit principle.
Participation in the pace car lap costs € 100, - and the free ride from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. will cost € 350, -
Second co-drivers and riders are more than welcome, the fee is € 10, - per person.

The principal curves are marshals with flags and there are three security cars security circles around any stranded people unlucky to drag.
If the 12th circuit is not passable due to snow or ice, then cancel the day and everyone gets their money back.

Want to join this day, click on the registration button below (our preference) or sign your name in the topic on the forum.

Best thing to do is join Driving Fun I guess?
I've driven a few trackdays at Zandvoort with this organization in the past, which were oké. (And so has Big D I believe?)

This link shows the topic on the DF forum and the list of attendees (90) so far: LINK
Apparently the track day of DF is organized with Skylimits.be. The site of this Belgium organization shows no details at all unfortunately, so I guess the total amount of attendees is probably higher. Bare in mind that the track is over 20km long, so a number of 200 cars will still not result in a overcrowded track.

To compare the track day price with touristfahrt price:
15 rounds: € 250,-
25 rounds: € 390,-
Should equal aprox. 20 rounds I'd say.

The good thing is you don't have to worry for bikers and coasters. :thumbsup

This trip gets more expensive every time I log in to SE. Or touch my car.

Campbell, it makes our trip easier - now we know we won't be driving on the ring, so no need to worry about dodgy insurance, getting there in a hurry, etc. That reminds me, I must book the hotels in France ...

If anyone is thinking of dropping out of the hotel in Nurburg please let me know ASAP - I'll be liable for the 10% deposit but nothing more, but the sooner we tell the Burgstube, the more chance they have of renting the rooms to somebody else. If you don't tell me and just don't show up, I'll have to pay for your room, and you'll have to pay me (or else!).

Cheers,
Robin

Good.

So basically just a total tourist run to Ring and back then? Is there an F1 museum n stuff I might go look at (as a saddo)?

Disappointing but I am happy to still go to the ring.

Didn't someone mention cheap sessions on Nurburgring GP circuit were available?

surely this is the best news yet?? Instead of a tourist day with loads of slow things, we can take part in a trackday instead. There is no longer any insurance issues either. Its a tad expensive, but not THAT much more than the day at spa.

Absolutely - anyone expecting to arrive on Thursday should clearly do the track day on Friday. For those of us not leaving England until Thursday night, it becomes a tourist trip (or maybe we get there in time to do a few pax laps). Either way I don't think it's a big problem?

Cheers,

Hey Dom,

I'm trying to book this day with Driving Fun!

I have registered (I think) but no access to the "Marketplace" yet where I'm expecting to be able to pay by paypal?

Let me know if this is wrong..my Dutch is even worse than my French

Take care,

Frank

The "INSCHRIJVEN" button brings you in menu where they ask you for details. They're not very international orientated as every text is in Dutch.
The last page is for payments, Paypall is not one of the options here.
I've send DF a message what's best to do for foreighn drivers that want to attend.
I'll wait for his answer / advise, bank transfer will probably be your option.
And in worst case I'll sort with DF to pay a part for you and you pay me back at the ring in euro's. no sweat.

Will be looking for pax laps.

OAP's should not be driving the Ring.

I think it's a great opportunity for those feeling flush - I am ever so slightly envious but I'll get over it :-)

I will still be trying to bring my DSLR and prob also camcorder to capture all you hooligans going for it!

Too right Neil, this is definately better new than touristfarten laps. Anyone not done the ring before or not very often this would be a great opportunity to do it on a very quiet track. Perfect. :thumbsup

Yes Dom I did a Driving Fun day at Zandvoort and would love to do the Ring Session too. Too good an opportunity to miss. Last time we put out names down on the list and just paid on the day. Would that be possible again?
