Steve,
I like how you gave up trying to get past the elises and did some drifting instead!

Re: Hot Marques
I went up with the biker "boys" in the 7 yesterday to have a watch. Didn't have a lid with me so just mulled around the paddock area. I have to say it reminded me very much of the HM days of old when most of the cars there would be elises and you couldn't walk more than 5 feet without bumping into folk. I really must attend more of these things as I struggled with a lot of folks names yesterday, so sorry if I didn't introduce myself to any of the newer folk.

Re: Hot Marques
The white one was Phil Dryborough who also had his 340R there as well. They go everywhere together, often abroad on a transporter that we had some pics of recently.
They have an agreement that they all keep their cars to the same spec, supposedly standard S1's with large ali throttle body, but they do seem very quick partly due to speed out of corners as they are capable drivers, Phil especially who races in the Porsche Cup series.
Fortunately with N3 I was able to pass them in convoy, and they were pretty good with me in pulling over.

Re: Hot Marques
I'm sure they are all good drivers, but I felt they were getting way too close for comfort in the braking zones and through the corners. I'll happily move over if I think someone is quicker than me (i.e. most of the time), but a number of times yesterday I felt they were almost bullying me into getting out of the way. I know they're not the quickest in a straight line, so I have no problem moving over and lifting off to let them by, so they don't need to be glued to my exhaust in order to get past.tut wrote:The white one was Phil Dryborough who also had his 340R there as well. Some of the driving from one of the other Elises was questionable, just watched my video footage (to be uploaded later) and one of the Elises with the big wing overtook an S2000 on the inside at Duffus - not sure if he was black-flagged for that, but couldn't believe what I was seeing - there was absolutely no need to pass there.

Agreed Jamie, I can see that they can be a bit intimidating and just because they drive together in convoy does not mean they should try the same thing with other cars on the track.
It does not bother me personally as I am in a position to deal with it, but I will have a word with Ian next time. Some of us drive around together for fun, but we do not make a profession of it and would not intimidate other drivers.

Re: Hot Marques
If you have a look at the vid Steve posted it was the black elise in the train that was dragging all the gravel onto the track with a few minor off's. There was a number of large chunks on the exit of Clarks. Think was the reason for one of the red flags, to sweep up. They're quick drivers but running so many so close together leaves no room for error.
Re: Hot Marques
That was my poorly judged attempt to let you past, realise should have waited for the next straight mind you reckon that move could catch on as it confuses the competitionSteve Gill wrote:Got some vid of your interesting line into McIntyresDoc883 wrote:Apologies if I held up any of you today![]()

All I need now is better tyres, brakes, adjustable suspension, sports exhaust, de-cat oh and about 100bhp more and I'm with you

Re: Hot Marques
I'd have to agree. It was my 1st time out in my Elise after buying it in Feb. I have no problem with the S1's driving around at high-speed in convoy as long as they respect the other drivers. On several occasions the red S1 was about a foot of my rear bumper in areas where they simply could not pass safely. Another occasion 1 of the 3 spun directly in front of me after I moved over to let them through causing me to take avoidance action. We have not all had our cars for 10 years, modified and wearing track day rubber so maybe just maybe give the slower less experienced driver a little room in future as don't forgot that was you some years back.

I have been doing trackdays for a few years now, car is modified and wears trackday rubber, and it still intimidates the hell out of me when I see a car that close behind me in a braking zone! The red Elise seemed to be the worst culprit as you say.Doc883 wrote:I'd have to agree. It was my 1st time out in my Elise after buying it in Feb. Don't want to make a big deal out of it, as I'm sure someone will think I've driven aggressively in the past (I certainly try to err on the side of caution, after all I can accept being held up a lot more readily than I can a damaged car), but I could see it putting off a lot of people who are still building a bit of confidence on track.
Good effort for your first trackday, take it you're hooked now?

Hi Jamie, had already signed up for the Hot Marques Full Day on Sat 20th June and plan to do a few of the evening sessions this yearDigital wrote: Good effort for your first trackday, take it you're hooked now?![]()
Jamie

It was my 1st outing in the Elise but I took both my Renaulsport Megane and Clio around KH once each when I had them.
Are you heading up on the 20th June ?

I've booked now Doc. I must admit it is the height of laziness when I can't be bothered walking a few feet next door to tell you, but let you know on an internet forum insteadDoc883 wrote:Digital wrote: Are you heading up on the 20th June ?

I was getting a bit pissed because whilst they were fast, the 3 of them were holding me up - I didn't want to kick up a fuss on an elise forum about elises though

Wasn't very impressed when the black car spun out, he'd stopped and I went to go past him when he then cut in front of me. Rule I play to is if you spin out, wait for traffic to clear before moving!
I recommend carlimits.com for driver training!

Ditto. This happened to me too at the last track day they were at - way too close through the twisties.Doc883 wrote: I have no problem with the S1's driving around at high-speed in convoy as long as they respect the other drivers.
