I would go the ferry too - the return is on a weekend anyway I think - so can get the 12/8 ferry arrive Newcastle Sunday 13/8. Spend the night in Amsterdam. Longest possible lie in on Saturday, go out for a nice lunch somewhere and then off to Ijmuiden for the ferry home.

Advantages of ferry:

(a) Opportunity to spend at least £200 on drink on the way out; option to spend more at the "casino".
(b) Zombie Disco
(c) Make new friends
(d) The band is second to none
(e) OK, I made that one up
(f) There's bingo and a music quiz

It's expensive if you book today, though - probably won't get cheaper.

Two sharing in a cabin + two cars = 804 quid!

The eurotunnel is a lot cheaper at present - probably doable for <200 quid per car even on a normal booking; maybe 100 if you do ultra restrictive ticket.

Mileage wise via Newcastle/Ijmuiden route it's 360 miles from Edinburgh vs 885 via the Eurotunnel. So that's an extra 1,000 miles to drive = 150 odd extra in fuel and 12-16 hours extra behind the wheel.

On balance I would still go with the ferry I think.

Cheers,
Robin

Rotterdam to Hull ferry leaves at 9pm which is easily doable after Zandy. Not as much fun as the geordie express though

Assuming the £200 was each. Still can't believe an empty casino will not go below £10 per bet on blackjack.

Obviously. Although I am sure I lost at least £100 by randomly dropping money whilst paying for drinks. I arrived in Holland penniless. Though luckily had euro cash to pay for the bakers breakfast :-)

That's them. I love the way they ask for requests, but never play them (mostly because they don't know them I suspect!).

Booked also, I wasn't far off with my guess of around £300 for the trackday. Looks like an awesome track though, looking forward to it. :thumbsup 8)

Currently looking at Geordie Express on the way out on Tuesday, and coming back on the P&O Rotterdam to Hull ferry on the Friday night ( 9pm).

That said might be easier just doing Geordie express both ways.

Is anyone here going only for this trackday alone?
