Looks like the thing, Steve, cheers.

So around €40 to get the thing up and running on the car, €5 per month in which you actually use it, and approx €200 in toll charges based on the routes to/from Orange (may be slightly less actually as I just punched in Calais-Metz-Geneva-Orange into the online estimator at http://www.autoroutes.fr/en/routes.htm but some of our routing is off-autoroute, obviously).

I make that about £180 for the privilege. The French are going to do well out of us :-)

In the past I've just paid the tolls as I went along, do you feel there is any financial advantage in getting the autoroute gizmo, or is it just the convenience?
I'll have a passenger who can pay the tolls easily enough for me, for you guys travelling solo it's obviously a bit more difficult to reach the toll booths.

The EUR40 is probably funding convenience, Kenny. But once you have a tag, I think it's only a few EUR a year to retain it and future trips therefore become easier.

As a lone driver, in a car where it's hard enough to reach ticket machines and toll booths from the driver's seat, I'm certainly tempted!

The main advantage is you can avoid the long queues you often get at the toll booths

I must be lucky - never had to queue. That said, don't think I've been down this area before and most of my trips over there have been on bikes.

Agree that's the main advantage as well as not having to get out to pay. You generally don't have to stop at all in the telepeage lanes.

In August it can be very busy as it's the frenchies holidays too.

I think my plan is to leave early Saturday morning and head via Chunnel to rendezvous with you chaps at Geneva. Should get there by 9 or 10pm all going well. Then join the drive to orange. :)

Avoid queues as the French are too tight to have them hence the Reserved lanes are empty
Speed, nothing like having to undo your harnesses, dig out wallet then get out the 340 and then pay then do up harnesses etc
Tool booth whacky races (Sorry again Mass for 2011!)

Managed full opposite lock in the Atom leaving the toll booth during the toll both grand prix after Jordans water bottle made a bid for freedom under my rear tyre!

The telepeage chip is genius - don't pikee it - especially in August in France. Spazz was June so the rest of the EU hadn't decided to head to France that month :damnfunny

Guess I'd better invest in one then or I'll be arriving in Orange after everyone else to a barrage of pikee abuse.....
