BTW, you read the SELC*CK thread about 'which conversion is best'? Think you've posted on it from memory...

Seems that even king Scruffy knows that there are driveshaft issues....

yeh, but mine wasnt the usual driveshaft issue. mines was just a freak of nature. its never happened before, and its sorted now.

the driveshaft "problem" that tut and a few others have had has supposedly been resolved on the sinclaires kit. just need to wait and see. thats why i'm helping sinclaires test it to destruction. if i cant break it, nobody can.

the problem on scruffys car is that its a race car with 300bhp and is running slicks. the huge cornering forces can bend the actual hubs and cause failures. shouldnt be a problem on road/track cars. well, no more of a problem over a K series car anyway. its a race car issue rather than a honda issue. the K series racers struggle with it to.

Aye - he's maneuvered the argument away from the real problem, which is the angle the driveshafts run at (in the Honda conversions, not the K) - nobody was talking about hubs and bearings before he did ;) The CV's must be getting really hot with the amount they need to deflect. That's a feature of the engine position (which looks like it can't be totally solved without changing subframe - even if Sincs have moved the mounts a bit)

That may also have been behind your driveshaft popping out going over rough ground at full bore... IMVHO

But hey - there are loads of cars running now that don't show any issue with it, so fingers crossed yours ends up one of that number. :thumbsup

nah. his issues with the cv overheating is due to running in 4hr endarance races and the 24hr thing last year. The K's have exactly the same problem (so i'm told)

Cool!

Coincidence time, where do I start....

1. I'm from B/Ferry originally, moved to the West End about 7 years ago - used to live in Bughties Rd, was at Monifieth High

2. My Caterham (the Supersnot) is also Cammy's old car

3. I assume you bought the Elise from Autoecosse?
That's where I bought my tintop

Phew, just in. Great to see KH in the sunshine, and warm!

The Exige just keeps getting better, big thanks to Neil for a few tips. Nearly got the hang of taking Butchers flat now, and drifting round Macintyres doesnt scare me as much as it used to :P my biggest problem seems to be my tendency to turn in a bit too early. Oh and must try harder on my heal and toe

My tyres took a bit of a kicking tonight, thats going to hurt my wallet

Ed, what can I say matey, still there is always a supercharger

Oh aye and reason No. 295473 why tut is a legend (leg-end)

Pre track discussion

Tut: You been on the new surface then?

Kenwood: Yep its bloody great, really smooth.

Tut: Are the corners any different?

Kenwood: Not really, Duffus is, the rest just have more friendly kerbs, you can really hit them hard, well, when the bloody cones aren't in the middle of them that is

Tut: Are they big bollard cones or the wee ones?

Kenwood: Wee ones

Tut: I'll get rid of the cones

Pity it broke again, still someone else cleared the cones :D

I actually got 45 mins in solid before the bloody brake disk went Kenny, so I did get rid of the relevant cones.

I did like the new track layout, really able to get speed up now all the way down to McIntyres, and the grip with the Maxsports on the warm track felt good.

Had to drive home using the handbrake, then on the way back the rear lights and indicators packed in, but did not know that until I was pulled in by a Patrol car just short of Ellon. I had actully seen him near Balmedie tucked into a side road, and went passed about 90 tuts, but he did not seem to pull out and follow. However about four miles on a car caught up with a bar on the roof, I was doing 60, and then the blues went on. I pulled in, jumped out, and explained that I was incontinent and needed to get to a toilet quickly, showed him my Disability permit, they explained about the lights, then escorted me to the pub in Ellon to use theirs.

We then tried to sort the lights out, but it was not a fuse. However the fog light was working so he was happy for me to carry on home using that. He then took all my details from my licence, asked me what I did for a living, I explained that I had been a Royal Marine, mercenary, senior Police Officer, and pilot, but was now retired. This intrigued them, especially the Chief Superintendent part, but this was due to equal rank, I was attached to the Police Air Arm in Oman for a while, and then with Britows, I was detached to Thames Valley Police Force in the '80's to fly their first helicopter and train their Observers.

As a result they dropped the speeding charge, and just gave me a ticket to send in within 21 days to say that the lights had been fixed. Two really pleasant guys, who could have screwed me if they had wanted to.

Had a pint, then drove home on an empty back road.

Really pissed off at that being the third trackday in a row that I have not finished, but will take it up to Craigs today to try and find out why the inner disk surface is running against the brake caliper.

i spoke to robin last night tut, its almost defiantely the wheel bearing. give him a phone if you need it explaining, but his reasons seemed good enough for me. get the wheel bearing changed and you'll be good to go

Thanks both.

I have a new wheel bearing in the shed. Robin will also realise that this is the hub that we had all the trouble with on Stelvio, it has had four bearing changes so far, so it may be a hub change. I thought that after the last new bearing and uprating the bolts , that it had been sorted.
