Awsome day at oulton, VX felt a bit stodgy in the morning, but played around with tyre pressures, and found a balance for the afternoon, and had a good few good runs after that.

Re: Oulton Park - Friday May 20th - Club MSV trackday
My favourite bit was where I was faster than Neil. (I had been following him round the track, me in my car (ex his car) and him in Robin's). Now although Robin's was on road tyres and mine is on 888s I was obviously at least as quick most places, and perhaps even slightly quicker in places. Oh you should have seen his face when I mentioned this to him on our return to the paddock.
"I was waiting for you!!!" he protested.
"You were sideways! Clearly I was faster, no way was that intentional."
Neil at this points turns to Andy as some sort of referee, then pleads to anyone else who would listen that he was waiting for me so he could show me some cornering lines. There were some 'racing driver' type excuses bandied about as well (cold tyres, car not properly warmed up, sore leg, something in his eye) but I walked away safe in the knowledge that I was getting faster and was probably nearly as fast as Neil.
After lunch Neil took me out in my car as a pax. Ermm at this point I would like to formally retract the above statement. Unless my car has a secret, Bugatti Veyron style, 'go faster round corners' switch that only Neil knows about I am not nearly as fast as Neil. OK maybe on one or two of the slower corners, but on the faster ones there is still a slight, but noticeable, difference in both our entry and exit speeds. And the speed carried through the corner.
Somewhere in region of 10-20 mph. No more though. Maybe 25.
Quite quick then, I'd probably even let him drive my child to school too.
Ho hum. Excellent day, (5ish tanks of fuel including the journey down, and 2 litres of oil...)

(And my new car is f*cking ace)

Re: Oulton Park - Friday May 20th - Club MSV trackday
Was thinking of you all as I hacked my way around no. 3 course at Carnoustie.
I didn't win anything. But it's the taking part that counts.
Hope all are home safely including hardware.
Reports and pics please.

Re: Oulton Park - Friday May 20th - Club MSV trackday
despite manging to sheer a wheel bolt fromthe hub, a epic day.
a HUGE thanks to team SE for helping sort this out. Frank, Robin, Ape, Stu and Pete (who i still owe for that 20litres) massive thanks for your help.
The R400 was simply epic around Oulton, requiriing so much concentration, and quite physical to drive.
How much did I enjoy it - first session was 1 tank of fuel, and scalped everything. THe only thing to come by all day was a Caterham race car, and he was leaving us on thre straights, when i was 2 up, but lucky Frank got to see, we still had him on the braking and corners
After a frantic last few months, my day could have been done by lunch time with out TSE, so a sincere thanks again chaps.
Expect to see McKean sporting a new purchase from Demon TWeeks soon
YUp, hub off we raced to wrexham to get to demontweeks who found us some new wheel studs for the hub
By 3.15pm, it was back assembled (thanks Frank) and I was out there for my test lap.
Test lap went something like; out of pits turn 1, spot GTR, have it....................
After some VX bating, i managed to leave the rangie for 2 hours with the new monster (FF10) drinks cooler and my laptop on - flat battery - VX to the rescue - cheers Stu.
THe VX did very well throughout the day, and despite Stu moaning a bit about the weight it was carrying, it didnt seem to miss a beat!
Enjoyed the R400 so much that I'm toying with taking it to the motorshow rather than the GT3
PS - whens Cadwell

Re: Oulton Park - Friday May 20th - Club MSV trackday
It was a good day with some impromptu spannering on the R400 and Egor. Andy's wheel stud snapped and was found in the pit lane entry, so that was a lucky return to the pits I think. Egor had a lucky escape too ... 5th lap I was just telling myself it was time to "man up" and attack Druids, hit the brake pedal - nothing! Pedal just went straight to the floor. Luckily it wasn't quite on the floor as it happened as the brakes did actually do just a little bit of work, coupled with some unusual lines and a slightly increased heart rate I managed to squirm my way around the corner and back into the pits. A swift trip into Northwich to buy some brake fluid and a bleeder, a quick bleed in the paddock and then it was time for Neil to test the brakes (I figure if he couldn't boil the fluid, it would be OK). He came back in 5 laps later saying the brake warning light was on ... turned out I had forgotten to put the reservoir cap back on and it has pissed all the fluid all over the services compartment - doh! Topped it up with some more fluid, put the lid on this time and then took it back out for some more spading. Didn't miss a beat for the rest of the day, although the 2 year old ex-FF PZeroNeros were probably sub-optimal (excuse #1092).
So thanks to everyone for a good day with the usual suspect banter in the paddock
I would be up for Cadwell if I can find the time, but let's get Frolic done first!
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Oulton Park - Friday May 20th - Club MSV trackday
was a good trip. A few beers and a burger in the pub the night before, with plenty of banter on top. This involved the worst pub quiz known to man, with 2 of the worlds most annoying voices asking the questions, and a healthy debate about wether i was fit to do the school run
The actual trackday was good fun too. Robin has already mentioned the brake issue, it was just lucky it was him at the wheel, as he tends to build to his fast laps, whereas i tend to disengage the brain from lap 3 onwards
I had a good play with pete too, led him through a couple of laps to show him my lines and entry speeds and stuff. After the abuse i got afterwards, i decided to show him a slightly quicker lap from onboard. That was good fun. He went very quiet, especially when i tried to show him that island bend isnt flat, and made a proper balls up of it
Thanks to Stu and Andy aswell for the shot in there steeds, was good fun in both, ansd much appreciated
Of course also thanks to Robin for putting up with me blethering sh*t for 500 miles and letting me rag egor
