Can not remember the last red flag that I caused, but obviously it would have been for a mechanical fault as opposed to a driving error..........

Just been onto SIDC, and booked it.

Wouldn't mind a passenger ride in someone elses first, and any offers of someone to hold my hand when I go out gratefully received - nutters need not apply.

Scott.

Thanks for all the advice guys . . . I'm working on it. Just filled in an insurance enquiry form for CCI and awaiting quote. Definitely not doing it without insurance, but if the insurance doesn't break the bank then I think I might just be there. :D

Only other concern is the weather with this time of year . . . wet/icy/slippy track is a bit scary for first trackday!

If there is ice/snow on the track they wont run it.

What sort of price are you hoping for from CCI ?

I'm afraid the CCI quote IS silly money . . . £222 for my car for ONE trackday!!!

I'm sorry guys, there's no chance in hell that I'm paying £222 for insurance when the trackday itself is only £75! I really don't want to do this without insurance. It's my everyday car and I can't afford to fix it myself if not covered by insurance.

I hear what you are saying dezzy, but having done my first (and then a few more) trackdays this summer, I never bothered with insurance for any and wouldnt in the future.

At no point in the 8 hours I was on track for over the days / nights I did, did I ever feel or think I could have crashed or had a lucky escape. Its a lot safer out there than you`d think when you are driving.

Just my thoughts.

Safer on track than on road that's for sure.

Pretty much agree with JJ, in around 20 track days I have never had a big moment. I have had plenty of spins but always kept at least 2 wheels on the tarmac.

Drive well within your limits adn its absolutely fine, you dont have to be sliding round every corner to have fun.

and not just in your own car ya bugger!

ive spun 3 or 4 times, but only cause i was being stupid and always kept atleast 2 tyres on the black stuff.
i have never seen any damage to an elise except maybe tut but that was to clear the cones...and 4mil hit the tyre wall but that was due to "mechanical" failure ( i didnt see this), and there was a 111s the owner of which isnt on here who on his first trackday took macintyres too quick and scuffed the tyres. but they dont count......
if you are sensible it is highly unlikely that you will damage your pride and joy....
yes craigieb i have seen you drive and was impressed.....
ya might need to back off a touch for your first outing on track though! go on ya big puff! :P

shame i aint going to be there to see it though.......

Not exactly true. I had problems with the car. play in steering rack, well fcuk wheel bearing, bent rear wishbone etc etc and i knew the car was handling like a bag of sh*t but i stayed out regardless. Car was getting worse and worse until it snapped sieways as i turned into clarks, and i managed to make an arse of it all the way to the barrier on the inside of the track about 150m later.

Probably more brain failure than mechanical, although i know that i wouldnt have crashed if the car had been right.
