Some of the younger whippersnappers would do well to go out with Paul as a pax or try and follow his lines round KH.

Equestrian pursuits took preference over my attending the trackday yesterday but I would wager there was not much out there that could consistently keep up with Father G and the Still Game 340R on a cold damp track.
I have sat beside and observed many a driver over the years and you can tell who "the hands" are with their smoother but quick driving style .

I will further embarass the old fart by including the sepia pic extracted from the vaults of the Perthshire Advertiser circa 1977

This shows a highly cash strapped but enthusiastic Methven Rally Team prior to setting off for the Tour of Mull Rally.
The cars were hand built, and in the case of Paul's Firenza , the parts were scavenged from the factory backed DTV team .
Paul finished a credible eighth and split the pack of the Motoring News Championship contenders. (Aided by a dashingly handsome Navigator and as yet undiscovered talent with a Human League haircut..... second from the right!! )

Paul's Rallying Career flourished with many notable win/results in the Scottish Championship and latterly Castrol Autosport British Championship
His Chevette HS was Sponsored by the European Tool Company (ETCO tools)
The car carried the strapline "Grip your nuts with an Etco Spanner" along both sides of the vehicle which afforded great press coverage and laughs for spectators.

Good fun again today, cheers to Mass for the px, like others have said didn't know exiges could go that fast in the wet

1st trackday in the wet with the 944 and it was great fun, just have to watch for putting the rear wheels on the kerb at Car lube, makes for an interesting exit

Mass was very quick......very impresssive.......but he was making use of a secret weapon!
All joing aside, Mass, your driving is much improved, a huge difference between last year and Saturday there (and you were pretty good last year!).

Great fun yesterday, 1st time out with the teg in the rain / 888's (not often you can say that at KH!) and was mighty impressed with it.

Was running v well, and holding its own in the wet, but we were having major prob's with the digital dash, had fitted a new one on Sat morning after some probs on Fri and the company were good enough to send up a spare. Didnt help though and the majority of the session was spent running blind with the dash not reading, guessing gear changes with the noise it was making hit the rev limiter a good few times and trying to keep it in the VTEC zone.....!

Managed a 67 which wasnt too bad, didnt ever seem to have a clear run or the chance to chase / be chased by anyone (always makes me go faster ). Also had an interesting spin going through butchers, managed to keep it on the black stuff though resulting in a 3 point turn just before the chicane.....! Apologies!

Scotty in the 211 looked awesome, still my dream car after the pax on the AMP3 day! One day! Mass (?) in the Gulf exige was going very well as well.

We managed 3 good sessions but on the fourth the car died at the hairpin So we were responsible for 1/2 a red flag - our first ever which isnt too bad! I will only claim half as another car was already stuck in the mud at the hairpin! Apologies again!

Not sure what happened, will investigate further tommorrow, hopefully not too expensive Not holding my breath tho....!

Just about warmed up after the day! Actually not too bad even though a 2-11 probably wouldn't have been my car of choice for the run back to Aberdeen. Jacket was plugged into 12V but my legs were wet and frozen, got out at home and nearly fell over...

Cheers for the lift Scotty and all for the pax laps Great to catch up with everyone, often on trackdays I never seem to get the chance to chat. Good to reunite Ed with his RoadAngel...only been a couple of years.

was a good day, I was hoping it would be dry so I could start playing with settings in the 2-11, but wasn't to be. Was good to be hooning it about in the wet, not sure what my lap times were but I never got passed all day. I was also getting 120 under the bridge

The 2-11 is now turning into a shed after my kiss with the tyres and a evo. Will get some red duct ordered tomorrow

Wahay. Congrats on getting your machine out on track, Simon. Much respect! Must have felt quite something as you first headed out the pitlane in a car you've scratch-built

...look forward to reading about your season (assuming you're racing this year).

You know, I can't quite believe it went so well
The car feels fab, Fergus set the ride height and did the toe/camber late last week. It's also softened up a bit after being bashed over some kerbs.

I had a couple of problems. I couldn't select gears for a bit, but that was because I hadn't done up the locknuts on the clutch cable, fixed at the circuit.
I also had a wee oil leak from the rocker cover, this turned out to be because I hadn't done up those bolts either. Oh well, better to find out now and at least it wasn't anything steering/suspensiony.

Got it down to 78 tut-second laps by the end of the day. There's probably more to come once I have an aeroscreen fitted so I can see

Sorry to anyone I got in the way of, particularly when I was gingerly doing the car's first ever laps.
With so much spray it was difficult to tell if anyone was behind me waiting to get past!

Great to see the car on the track and congratulations on such an achievement. I had planned to come over and say hello but I ended up sitting in the car most of the time to keep the seat dry! 78 was a good time for the conditions and first time out - it was my first ever wet drive and I was strugging to keep in the 70's, although there was more grip than I expected, visibilty was the big problem (even with an aero).

78 secs is an awesome time on a brand new car on a soaking track with a wheezy old crossflow in it.
