Frolic 13 (2015)
Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
Have looked at stopovers around Troyes / Dijon for us Geordie Expressers. Focused on IBIS group because I know them. More homework needed - if anyone has recommendations for that area, do shout.

Count me in for a trip up through the Alps too.hendeg wrote:Yes, it's a big trip to get there but not having the road trip is missing out on most of the fun!
I would definitely be looking to extend the trip to include the south of France and the Alps on the way back.

I'll probably just drive to the south coast one day and then orange the next - get on a super early channel tunnel - it's 9 hours from Calais to Orange so if you get on a 6am chunnel you'll be there for 4pm local time.
Cheers,
Robin
P.S. Alternately I have great memories of Stelvio '99 staying in some stately home somewhere an hour north of Reims. Woke up the next morning at dawn, mist rising off the fields, hacking down to Reims on a fairly straight typical road in rural France (lined by trees on both sides) - picked up some lucky hitch-hiker who was very keen to get out at Reims
I don't think he had any clue what an Elise was!
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
My draft thinking is Geordie Express on Friday 14th, 6 hrs approx to Troyes area, overnight 15th there, leisurely brekky on 16th then 5 hrs to Orange and in the bar before the Chunnellers...

We were thinking the same Campbell. Abz to MMC then Newcastle for ferry on the Friday night and then halfway down France on Saturday 15th, second half on the Sunday.campbell wrote:My draft thinking is Geordie Express on Friday 14th, 6 hrs approx to Troyes area, overnight 15th there, leisurely brekky on 16th then 5 hrs to Orange and in the bar before the Chunnellers...
The advertised start date of August 16th, is that first night accommodation or first trackday? If it's the latter, then we would obviously leave a day earlier.
Steve.

Not clear yet, Steve, but would assume the former. Going to check with Paul later this week.

Only Ledenon confirmed as yet so best be flexible on the dates for now but normally a hotel included for the night before. Bear in mind if Charade comes off there will be 2 nights at a hotel near Clermont Ferrand, 4 in Orange...

What was the record???? Toulouse to Edinburgh in one go. 1200 miles in 18 hours IIRC.
Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
I'd did Edinburgh to Le Mans in 1 go last year - Orange to the Ring in a day with a hangover from hell in the Atom was an "experience"

Re: Frolic 13 (2015)
I did Innsbruck to EK in one go last winter, took 21hrs - never again!
I'll decide nearer the time but anything that requires more than 12hrs of driving is out.
