forgot to add that i have never bothered with insurance and the first car i took on track was a pd 150 diesel golf at Hot Marques so you boys have no excuse!!!
john introduced yellow post-its for newbies on the back windscreen but L plates are also a good idea as long as the organiser knows and tells everyone about them.

Whilst I agree with everyone in that it's safer than being on the road, please don't feel pressured into it. It's very easy to try and encourage people on here but make sure you are ready to accept the risk as it does sometimes go wrong.
Ed, you might not have seen any damage but I've seen at leat 3 smashed Lotuses and a few scoobies too, which is more than I've ever seen happen on the public roads.
It isn't risk free but it is probably safer than you may think.
FWIW, I don't have track insurance and never have done but I think next year it will be more affordable and I will go with someone who does offer it.

I appreciate what everyone is saying, but that's also like saying you don't need road insurance because you've never been in an accident on the road. There is always a risk and I'm just not willing to take that risk without insurance. Sorry.
I'll keep investigating though. Any other insurers anyone can recommend? I've got my car insurance with Admiral, but I know they won't add track cover. Will maybe just need to wait until my renewal next year and renew with a company who include track cover.

Same as me then.
CCI will obviously cover you as you've tried them.
AON/Esteem told me they would not cover me at all on my car because I was under 30. You might have more luck with them.
Heritage are apparently doing track cover within their road cover policies now.

Not quite matey - its against the law to drive on her Maj's highways without insurance

Now booked on in the S2,
Dezzy you are more than welcome to Pax with me although its been a while since I was last on track (march I think) so will be slightly rusty and nervous in the S2 but your still welcome, if you don't mind paxing with a girl.

Think I'll be taking up the offers of pax laps with y'all . . . especially Mandy, as I want to find out if those stripes do make it go faster!

Thanks!
Will have another look at insurance over the weekend, but it's looking unlikely that I'll be able to afford it.

Will probably just have to stick with the original plan and get some driver training early next year, then when I renew my insurance, get a policy that includes trackdays.
Thanks for all the advice folks! The persuasion did work

. . . it was just the insurance that got in the way.
Cheers,
D
