Yep, one of the original spec GTE's. I saved it from being scrapped off basically. They were going to remove all the bespoke panels to keep hold of and junk the rest. Very much a case of being in the right place, at the right time, asking the right questions. Another day or two later it would have been in bits. Track use only.tut wrote:LHD GTE?

Still has the Swindon engine in the back, and the full carbon Interior.
Today went tickety boo, car ran sweet as a nut. unfortunately the noise equipment was off being serviced seeing as they didnt need it today... All reports from the pitwall though reckon it will pass 105 no bo, so all being well guys ill be at oulton on Friday with you all. Will get my name on the list tomorrow.

Great stuff Gav.
What is the story behind changing from the paddle box to the manual?

Re: Donnington Oulton double header
It wasnt a traditional autobox as you know tut, it was a robotised manual box that they had put into them.
It was a hydraulically operated unit with a seperate ecu controlling it. It was one of the (many) reasons why the GTE's were never released back in 2011 when they first built them, they simply couldnt get it to work properly. It was the same as the sps elise that was mutted round the same time that never saw the light of day either.
Not only did the system operate the gears but it also operated the clutch action. The biting point was all over the place on light throttle, it didnt know where it wanted to be. The day i picked it up it took me two or three goes to get it on the trailer. First try saw me 3/4 the way on the bed when the clutch lost its bite point and i ended up rolling back 20ft off the trailer trying to rescue it before the brain finally engaged and said pull the handbrake on Gav...there was no question about it, it had to go!
That was one of the main problems i had to deal with along with the handling. To fill the wheel arches out they used a spacer which also incorporated the centre lock threaded stub. Wasnt such a problem on the rear but it had undesired effects to the handling on the front axles using the std length wishbones (a lotus that doesnt handle, well it isnt a lotus...). I have had to use the later wishbones and wheels they redesigned for the 20 road cars to sort its wayward handling out (and it also got rid of the nasty spacer/centre lock unit they used to mount the wheels).
There are a host of other tit bits to do on it, but the main ones are out the way, will do the rest of the bits over winter now.
Will get a few more pics up, should be a few from today.

Re: Donnington Oulton double header
You know your stuff Gav, and I can see the point behind ditching what is a basically a not fit for purpose slur box for a manual.
If you are racing then a good paddle box will obviously be an advantage when looking for tenths, but for the road and trackdays I would much rather be in charge with a manual change. I realise that you can change when you want to as opposed to a complete auto box, but there is just more satisfaction in matching gears, throttle and clutch with a manual.

Totally different animal, the elise with 20 litres was 800kg, the GTE is 1400kg with 40 litres (put it on the weigh scales at dinner).Mike Scib wrote:...but is as good as an Elise 260 Gav
Was going well though mind, its a very stable platform.
