Yeah for FF!

Sorry guys looking like i am going to be giving this a miss next year, gutted to say the least :(

Anyway have a great one :thumbsup
For avoidance of doubt...I think you could actually do it for £1.5k if you are careful, the £3k referred to the matching I was obliged to do for the missus ;-)

Whatever the case, it remains incredible VFM for the trip that it is. It's just not within everyone's means, and that's cool.

Once upon a time we were able to throw several £k at the Stelvio Trips. Happy days :thumbsup Maybe one day the chance will come again! *

Depends on the car of course Campbell but I spent that on tyres and fuel...easily the same again on the trip itself, 'Ring, food and bevvies.

There is always the 'regular' FF in August which will be open to all, more relaxed and easier on the pocket...
All characters appearing in this post are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
Any references to laptimes, speed or driving on the public highway are purely for dramatic effect.

Frank, do you mean for Paul to change the Tunnel crossings? I see that these are extra (as they have been in recent years) so we would probably be booking the crossings ourselves I would think. If it is to do with the accommodation, the 2nd Saturday is an extra anyway.

Not relevant to me anyway, because as you know, I have an allergy to the Ring :D

I didn't factor tyres into my budget right enough!

And I drink a bit less than some ;-)

750 quid on frolic.
50 quid on a ferry
500 quid on fuel
250 quid on tyres
100 quid on pads
200 quid on peage
500 quid on food and drink

2350 total

i think that is the absolute minimum you can do frolic on, and in actual fact, it costs more than that, as you need to service the car before you go, and again on your return.

i'm not going to add up what it really cost me, but its a darn sight more than that.

Hey Stewart, crossing not included..missed that, thanks..so no problem..between £30-60 for the ferry return..get yourself to the Ring..have a couple of pax laps and then re-consider point of view..brilliant fun!

Take care,

Frank

Paul, I'm sure you're right ... I've never driven one so couldn't comment! A 300BHP s/c elise is a lot harder to drive at its limits than a standard one too, so it would make sense.

Benny, like everyone else you'll just have to wait and see - I expect that come November what places are left will be in the shop - you're a member (as is Paul A. and others on here, I think?) - so you just need to be first to snap up the places. He hasn't specified what he means by "active" - maybe just means that you're a current member? Dunno.

As Andy said, there's always the August trip will should be as good as any other in previous years, and more of a holiday for those wanting to take partners to share in the fun ...

Cheers,
Robin

Re Cost - I did it on a very strict budget this year and spent over £2,100 on the trip alone (I sadly went through my statements  ). That includes food, fuel, tolls, ring ticket etc. That does not include the ferry, the extra night's accomodation in Dover or £700 for FF8 itself. It also does not include any car maintenance/parts. My slightly more sensible road driving helped my fuel economy hugely though. 8) Although still got done by the French Police for doing 155kph in a 100 zone.

I used tyres I already had although they are now done and didn't fix any of the quirks before I went. Did manage to get an MOT and an oil leak fixed though and that was £200. New brake pads were £200 also so it starts adding up. A set of 888's for me are £600, hence the use of £40 slicks and old road tyres I had kicking about.

I did spend a little more on Ice cream this year and entry to zoo's/funparks etc etc. However if I'd stayed at the tracks I'd have spent that in fuel anyway.

Can't see me doing Frolics next year although I will definately do a couple of ring trips, just can't get enough of the place. :thumbsup

Jesus £2100!

Dont think i got to that with everything included tbh (i.e. ferrys & extra hotel)

Guys, Golding has lined up the daddy of all trips on this one. Its an EPIC.

If another organisation was charging you to do this the trip would cost £2k alone to buy!

Pay for the frolic now, then get your car sorted over winter, and save some pennies post Xmas to allow you to take your Lotus ownership to the next level.

Go large or go home :thumbsup :cheers

French Frolic - Extreme 26/6/10-3/7/10

** This is NOT the main 2010 French Frolic, that will take place in August as usual with 4 circuits 7 nights accommodation!
THIS June trip is being dubbed French Frolic 'Extreme' to differentiate it from the usual Frolic - FF9. **

Because of the amount of extra work involved in running an extra trip and because of the circuits we're visiting the trip is initially being opened up to those who attended FF5, FF6, FF7 or FF8. Any remaining places on 1st November will be opened up to other 'active' LoT members. There are no places for 'helpers' or people who want to follow the trip around, thus if you want to participate please book up a full place there are 55 available. Walshy will be joining us to cover instruction again, we'll also have a mechanic and 2 staff who will help Paul to run the days.

Unfortunately we're asking for payment early than usual and have given 2 options below. Yet again we've put together what will be by far the best value track day trip or Lotus holiday of 2010, as you'd expect by now. We have decided to load the price for those who want to pay in instalments as it not only saves a lot of work for us not having to chase payments when people pay in one go but helps cash flow. Thus you can do 4 trackdays, 7 nights accommodation, mechanical support, baguette lunch with cold drinks all day at the 4 circuits and a photo cd for just £750 if brought in advance. If you want to spread the payments there is a 3 x £300 option as well. Unfortunately we're NOT accepting any LoT credits against bookings.

Saturday 26th June - Head to Clermont Ferrand
Head down to our base for the first 2 trackdays and next 3 nights. A town we've stayed in a number of times before, plenty of bars for the jocks to cheer on England and France in the World Cup!

Sunday 27th June - Mas du Clos Trackday
The highlight of this years Frolic. Mas du Clos lives up to all expectations, it's possibly the most beatifull circuit you'll ever visit as well as being fantastic to drive.

Monday 28th June - Charade Trackday
Charade really is one of the best circuits in Europe! Not for the fainthearted we had one of our best ever days there as part of FF6. Renowned for it's concrete walls which hold the circuit together as it's set on the side of a volcano.

Tuesday 29th June - Head to Pau
A 4-5 hour drive towards the Pyrenees to get to our base for Pau Arnos. Some may want to go for a mountain drive, others head to Pau via the Millau bridge, which ever way you go there are some fabulous roads off the autoroutes! There is a small chance we will stay 1hr+ from Pau IF we can find somewhere that can cover Pau & Haute track days, it's unlikely though.

Wednesday 30th June - Pau Arnos trackday
Our most requested circuit! It was 2006 that we last visited Pau, that's way too long. The circuit is set at the foot of the Pyrenees with some amazing scenery and is one that just has to be driven.

Thursday 1st July - Drive to Bordeaux area
An easy drive up to our next stop off which we hope will make the final leg of this Frolic more of a holiday! With Bordeaux and La Rochelle close by it would be insane of us not to allow you to make the most of the area.

Friday 2nd July - Haute Saintonge track day
Our first visit to this brand new track. After a recommendation of a couple of members we've decided to give it a go. The circuit looks good with plenty of gradient but is a bit shorter than the other circuits, just a fraction longer than Brands Indy whilst also being one of the fastest in France.

Doesn't look much on the picture but it will be fun.. the video is interesting!

A little video - (obviously not a LoT day!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esqmAdWocmI

Saturday 3rd July - Day relaxing or back home
Some will head off, either home or on holiday today while others may stay the day and head back on the Sunday. It's 7hrs back to Calais for those going to the UK.

Sunday 4th July - drive home or on to hols
If you want an extra day in the area Saturday night accommodation is available as an extra and for those heading to Calais a 9am start on Sunday will see you with your ferry by 3pm so arriving in the UK before tea time! Well worth the extra night!

** When booking there are a number of options:...
* No accommodation at all - you book your own...
* Channel crossing.. we would recommend you book your own but have given an option of Eurotunnel
* Instruction package - pre book 1 x 20 mins session at all 4 days at £20 per session. Remaining places will be sold on the day at 30 Euro's.
* Saturday night - extra nights accommodation
* T/Shirt package - 4 t/shirts for the 4 track days - £30 all in *included free if full base package booked and paid for in sept 2009 *
* Helmet hire for all four days, we will not be taking any helmets unless pre-booked.

* Hotels - will be similar to previous trips - IBIS, Kyriad style - air conditioning is a must as is Wifi. They are room only all extras are your responsibility.

* Support - we will be taking one van of basic parts and tools with a trained mechanic. If drivers require other parts they are normally available on next day delivery -we will help where possible but this is your responsibility. You should not rely on our mechanic for anything other than basic cover. You should ensure your car is properly maintained for a trip of this nature and that you have suitable breakdown cover.

* Tyres - as usual we will not have any tyre support. Many garages and suppliers will ship these down to your hotel if you require them however, most are able to do the whole trip on one set.

* Noise - As a guideline cars should be road silenced and under 100db static and 95db drive by. If in doubt please email paul.

Packages

Base Package - £750 (until 30/11/09) - 4 trackdays, 7 nights accommodation, backup support, baguette lunch and cold drinks at all 4 circuits, photo cd - £750 if paid in advance. option to purchase in instalments below..

Option 7 - Helmet hire - for all 4 tack days - +£80

we hold the right to remove any option without notice

* Instalments - if you decide to pay by instalments there will be 3 x £300 due. the first one due now when you book using option 1 above. instalments 2 by 1/12/09 and the final instalment by 1/2/10. if these dates are missed previous instalments will be non refundable under ANY circumstances. By booking option 1 you accept this. We expect to withdraw the instalment option during October 2009. We are not offering the chance to book by instalments if you don't want the hotel option as that reduces the cost significantly anyway.

Refunds
Anyone booking the Base package will be entitled to a FULL refund if the cancel by 1/2/10. If you decide to pull out after this date we will only refund if we can sell the place on at full price and will then refund the amount paid less a 15% admin fee. You can not pass your place on to anyone else, it must come back to us - unless we say we can't sell it on in which case you may pass on to another LoT member only.

Bookings after 1/12/09
The price of the base package increases by £100 to £850 on 2/12/09. At this point the instalment option will not be available.

** If you are based in France, Belgium or Holland and would prefer to pay in Euro's please email paul@lotus-on-track.com for details.

A full information pack, including details of hotels will be issued in June 2010 and not before so please don't ask! We will not be sharing hotel information until then.

If you have ANY other questions please email paul@lotus-on-track.com

Finally, the main August French Frolic will be released end of October/November.

Andy,

The VFM, features, etc, are not being challenged here. And in fact if the total costs were not laid so bare, some people may already be signing up who have however decided it's too much of a commitment.

Owning an Elise is cheap(ish) until you start trying to do this kind of thing with it ;-)

I have to say the trip is well worth it and any European type jaunt is expensive. Another group I went to Europe with a few years ago, charges £1,000 purely for the accomodation, there are no trackdays just Euro driving. Frolics is a bargain.

I wasn't trying to put anyone off as if I could afford it at the moment I'd be booked. (I'll be watching nearer the time to see if any last minute slots/cancellations come up :thumbsup )

The way I tend to do it is by paying for it in installments then saving for spending money until the time comes. The car maintenance would need done anyway so I don't count that.
