SIDC Knockhill Dates for 2013

Post by Scottish Scrutineer » Sun Mar 31, 2013 10:15 pm

It was good chatting to some of you folks yesterday. Some very impressive motors about. Hopefully I'll get a chance to join in at one of the future track days. I'm still getting used to my Elise, having only driven it about 150 miles since I collected if from Alford (and most of them were down the A90).

BTW Mine weighed 775Kg which isn't too bad for the luxury model with carpets and speakers

It goes really well thanks, plenty quick enough and 100% trouble free. It's just my driving that's the problem now!

Was great to start meeting some SE faces on sat (cheers for the intros Dom!), great day out and first time in my elise. Car survived albeit with a minor fire (cheers for the help guys), sticking throttle and my first off at the hairpin (i now appreciate how easy the mx5 was to drive!). Was still awesome fun with great weather so cheers to KH for all the work to get track open and John for organising. Out of interest does anyone have any rough times to work towards for laps? My car has 138bhp and according to race chrono my best lap was 53.9 seconds but I am not convinced that is correct as it seems a bit quick. The rest of the day I was consistent at around 61-63second laps. Would be good to know what is realistic as thinking about entering that new championship they were marketing.

Even 61-63sec is quick. Watching back the videos Scotty was running 61-63's on a clear lap and I was 65-67sec. Not pushing but in a much faster car.

Sorry to disappoint but 53.9 tis not possible with 138 BHP and 4 wheels (although someone no doubt will correct me :? ). I think most of the quicker cars were doing 60-65 laptimes which was probably about 2 or 3 seconds slower than a warm day.

Think more like 64 if you are a decent driver. If you are a really great driver 61.x but more like 62.x

:cheers

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

@ muzza

The gps in your phone won't update quick enough which is why I bought the separate one that you can Bluetooth. The mx5 fastest lap with Clarke driving was 1:11.2 but I do only have 80 bhp at the most.

You can see Clarke smoking my tyres under braking in mikes video at around 4:30.

53.9 around KH is BTCC territory :)

(The winner of the club class in Time Attack last year only managed a 55.4 in a Nissan GTR  )

iirc phone GPS updates at 1-2Hz (or thereabouts), which isn't really accurate enough.

A Qstarz Bluetooth GPS unit refreshes at 10Hz - You can pick one up for around fifty quid.

I managed a 69.7 in my old Mk2 MX5, with sh*gged Toyo T1R's- Sure a better driver would have shaved a second or two off that, but not much more (VMAX on the pit straight was around 90mph! )

Mike Scib wrote:Great fun yesterday, really enjoyed the condtions as the wet patches made it more interesting  Little bit rusty as its been a few years since i was on track in a RWD car....infact it was my Elise!

My £15 pikey rear pads last a grand total of about 200 miles and now through to the backing plate! Ordered a set of DS2500 as was very impressed with them on my Trophy. Also might need to invest in some new suspension to as the dampers are getting a little tired

Great fun anyway and looking forward to the next :thumbsup
Glad to hear the S(hed)2000 went well - :thumbsup
