SE Trackday

Post by Mikie711 » Wed Mar 19, 2008 8:29 pm

There must be enough members on here to make an SE trackday a viable option. Even if we do the reverse of SIDC day i.e. we organise it and invite them along. Suppose John is the man to ask about numbers etc. Just a thought..........

Mike

Are you talking about KH? Remember that you need around 50 cars to break even at a reasonable price.

The Lotus Weekend track session that I have organised on the 6th is in reality an SE event as at present all cars are Elise or Caterham family.

Yup, probably viable now, but it's all about organisational ability and a bit of risk-taking. John has run close to a loss on SIDC days occasionally but thanks to the financial footing of their club, has usually scraped through. We don't have that "luxury" and as Tut will testify, it needs balls of steel to go it alone as a private organiser most times of the year.

That said, KH do offer the odd deal at the edges of the season...however, with his Tutness putting on the occasional show and the regular SIDC calendar offering about as many places for Elises as Scoobs now (cost of fuel is hitting em hard!), where is the need...

This said, it was always an inaugural dream of Scottish Elises to "book out KH for ourselves one day". 9 years on I guess we are very very close...Balls of steel anyone...

Speed Fair is what made me think of it. Would have to talk to John about insurance etc and cost it out to see where the break even point is. Looking at the photo's from the last KH it seems like we outnumber them now so like you say "balls of steel......." .

food for thought though.

I think Crail can be hired out at a much cheaper rate. Any possibilities there?

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Good idea, looking at their web site far fewer numbers are required as well. Will see what I can find oot :thumbsup. Half day at KH is £5000+vat in summer dropping to the bargain price of £4000+vat in Oct !!

Mike

I suggest that you do not take the risk with KH. Simple maths shows that just to break even in season at £6,100, for 40 drivers you would need to charge £153 and for 50 drivers it would be £122, so you would not get many takers. Plus you have to pay up front with a deposit then the remainder, so you could get your fingers badly burnt.

I put out the details for June four months before the event, and I am now at the break even point, but that is for a special weekend, and I have had experience in organising them.

We're still thinking about more AMP3 days, but these are very dependant on suppliers coming on board to carry the cost. Doesn't help that KH just ramp the prices up and up... Can't honestly see another one where 100% of paid fees can be given to charity. :(

Whatever happened to the development of trackdays at the old airbase at Edzell?

Crail were running Edzel. heard it's all been bought by developers. Don't know if it's true though.
