Trackday practice.

Post by dirka-dirka » Mon Aug 18, 2008 4:13 pm

Hello all, i will be home from the 11th-24th sept ( thank khrisna !!!). I manage to meet some of you a couple of months ago at a day at knockhill, would like to go out on track when i am home, but, dont think it right or fair that i just "give Knockhill a go". Hence i would prefer to learn the track a bit, turn in's , brakeing points ect.Is there any time or anything that i can go up and pay for some laps with one of the resident drivers ect? :scratch . Thanks all

1. Go to the trackday forum
2. See if there are any dates you can book
3. Ask if any SE regulars will be there
4. Book
5. Turn up & grab friendly SEer to sit in the pax seat for 10-15 laps (bacon rolls help here as enticement)
6. Get out there.

Job=Carrot. Usually several newbies on most trackdays - as long as your head is screwed on, it isn't a problem :thumbsup

If you're really wanting some proper training, give the Ginger Ape a PM (mckeann) and see if he's available to come along. Just introduce him on the day as a mate who's paxing, as KH are very sniffy about only their own instructors operating there.

Just get it on KH. I've only done 1 day and it was a blast.

No one complained I was too slow or anything like that and there is plenty of things to be learnt/people to chat to in the pit lane.

Even better if get someone to PAX i'd reckon, I plan to try that technique next time :)

People drive in different lines and braking points so good idea to get pax from various people.

A good idea to find an experienced driver with similar car to yours but don't try to do too much too quickly. Seeing is often much easier than doing.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Coulodnt be a much truer statement. I done Kames (first trackday) a few weeks ago and I though I was okay to begin with. Took a pax with campbell (Meatball) and saw how fast he was going. Jumped in car with Mass lockup the brakes up to hairpin and drove like someone who doesnt have a clue. By end of the though I had improved a lot with hints and tips from various folk. Good luck with it :D :thumbsup

I Agree and think you should just give it a go at KH. It was my first time last time (met you at the petrol station on the way there - big bloke with the red s2 elise). It was a bit scary trying to keep up pace in the wet to start with but I soon go used to it (not much faster though)!

I reckon (limited knowledge) that the SIDC days must be about the best as everyone was really helpfull and full of advice.

Go for it!

Thanks for all the advice guys, spose my only concern is that during the window that i am back there is no SIDC days, yes there is others, but rightly or wrongly i think i would be more comfortable on the SIDC day.I did get a pax with orange exige (meatball??) but would need him to take me a bit slower next time so i can actually see the corners !!! :D ..OH yeah smit remember you now Sir, i guessed you enjoyed it by the....""ive just snogged kylie"" look on your face the rest of the afternoon !!!!

Can't have been my orange Exige, as I'm not quick enough! The SIDC days always have a free instructor on hand, it's definitely worth getting them to come out in the car with you and give you a few tips (something I need to do again very soon).
