Crail Endurance (NLC)

Post by Stu160 » Sun Apr 23, 2006 10:50 pm

Hi All

Just a wee write up of the Crail this weekend.
It was endurance this weekend,3 one hour races in the prokart, this time with my co driver Duncan so I did not have to do it all my self.

Race 1

Duncan starts the race, as he is lightest, so the weight is easier to set up that way, 3rd on the grid which was good, and managed the first 6 or so laps fine, but a chain came off, he came in, but the chain was stuck, so end of race. As he was going back to the van to fix it, he tried to put a 1.4 m kart through a 1.3m gap, hit a post and bent the axle......Oops.

Race 2

Fixed the kart, all ok. Started from the back and Duncan got up to 11th place,(27 karts on the grid!!) I took over, and the kart was flying, done my first ever 44 sec lap(44.95) and finished in 6 th place ....result ;-), and also posted the 3rd fastest lap time in the process.

Race 3

As the kart was going well, we left it alone other than changing a rear wheel, as I had taken a chunk out of it with a small incident I had had. started 16th this time.
Duncan was going well, although he was a wee bit off my pace as he has not been out 6 months but nevertheless faster than he had gone before, and was up th 10th, but had a wee spin. Never lost a place, but was well behind the 9th place guy. We changed over, and once again the kart was going well, I had sight of the leader, on another part of the track, and I was increasing the gap. I eventually caught and passed the kart that Duncan was behind, so knew that was for a place, and had just about caught Noel (from V8) when the race finished. We got another 6th, and I had the 4th fastest lap this time.

Overall, the quickest we had ever went, and had we not had a problem in the first race, dropping us back on the starts, our pace would indicate we could have had 4th. but that's motorsport, what you could have got is not always what happens.

Great weekend, my face is burnt with the sun, and I am now having a wee rum and waiting on the GP highlights to come on.

Go out and get yourseves a Pro Kart and join in the fun :D :D
