Hot Marques 20/04/09

Post by mwmackenzie » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:34 am

What a great night!!! I left Edinburgh at 5.20 with a view to pop along and watch. On route the traffic anouncements came on the radio saying there were 2 accidents on aproach to the bridge causing long delays so I thought I was going miss the first hour. Traffic was slow but not as bad as the radio made out and I got there for 6.

First person I saw was Mass who told me to go and sign in for some pax laps while he went out to warm his CR up. I went into the office but couldn't resist the great weather and the thought of getting out on track so I signed on to go out on track and I'm glad I did.. On my second lap I noticed a White 211 parked off the road at Duffus which was the first red flag, expect the owner Micolai ( Spelt horribly wrong) to be a newbie any day, great guy and first time on KH with his car but first of many, he really got to grips with his car by the end of it and was going well. There was a regular white M3 CLS who was really quick and what a car, Awesome! usual Evo's were there, a couple of 911 including a GT2 which looked great but was slow in the twisties and a boxter that I enjoyed passing lots hehehe :D

I managed to keep up with Mass for a few laps but he was on road tyres and had a broken exhaust/cat so that's 2 cars broken in 2 trackdays, hows that for rotten luck? Mass took the second hour off and after I topped up mu oil I took him out for a few pax laps in my wee car, not sure what he made of them as he was pretty silent  I had great fun trying to keep up with Tenkfeet (Alan) who was going really well! Good to see DonnaC and fella up there watching, next time I'll try and take you out for some pax laps, good to see Ally Rennie there too for a few pax laps and good chin wag and fantastic to eventually meet Mike scib4 after all this time on here and scottish car club, time to buy an elise Mike!!. Phil and JJ popped along in JJ's Elige which looks fantastic in the flesh!! What a car I'm so jealous  looks great and I'm sure it'll go great too with that honda lump, but he didn't brave the track with his new shiney paintwork, wise man!

At the end of the night we had a look at Mass's SLR... Geez that's some major damage with a 6" inspection hole in the side of the block so you can see the crank , hope you get it sorted soon mate, does this mean you'll be tracking the diablo on Saturday mate as you've broken the other 2 hehehe or is the CR getting the exhaust sorted in time??

Any way great night, I really enjoyed it, and great so see some familiar and new faces, couldn't meet a nicer fella than Micolai with the 211 who should be along shortly to introduce himself.

Mark :thumbsup

Twas a great night even if I was just spectating this time round.

Bad luck Mass, at least this one is not such a big problem - I think its time for a decat :thumbsup

The CSL was a joy to watch and hear, plenty of caterhams on tonight- Davids R400 and the Red one with white spot were good to watch going through duffus together.

2 broken cars in a week

I've now taken the under tray off. The welding holding the U bend pipe to the cat has broken cleanly. It was so noisy driving back, my ears were ringing for hours after returning home. Just before the SLR expired, I put on a new set of Eagle F1 rears thinking I'd only use the CR for wet TDs. These tyres are good in wet but really useless in the dry, easily 5 secs off the pace of the 048s at KH. Slides too early when cold. When they warm up they go off quickly. Won't recommend anyone to use them for dry sessions. May need to go back to 048s if I can't get the SLR's engine fixed soon.

It was good to have some pax laps with Mark and David. Mark's elise felt steady, had good grip level and solid brakes:thumbsup

I could see David was feeling comfortable in the R400 and started to drive on the edge. The driving has improved greatly. Keep it up! I think all the changes you've been making to the car is paying dividends.

Good to see old and new faces.

Thanks Ally for bring the petrol back.

Thanks for offering to drive your car :thumbsup So how were your new suspension set up on the track? I didn't have much chance to talk with you after the session .

The CR is being fixed right now. Hope to get it back on road soon.

The car was immense , really good .Did not tinker with it as it was good as it was and I am the limiting factor at the moment . It would go down Duffus faster than I could handle so kept braking too late for Mcintyre's . A good learning experience . :thumbsup

I felt a bit sick afterwards so was making a rapid-ish exit and not feeling too chatty anyway . Think its all the adrenaline running out .

Glad the CR is a quick fix.

Dom's Scandinavian flick technique was not working despite my rough best efforts. Elected to use the handbrake which worked better than planned and managed a 180 degree drift . :damnfunny

Thanks for the compliments  It was a good evening and I'm beginning to understand the car now. I spent the day tweaking the geometry and the under-steer was more controllable with the throttle this time :thumbsup - the added confidence and warm weather gave me my first sub minute lap :D

I'm glad the CR is not too difficult to fix and you got the SLR home :thumbsup - see you all on Saturday

Great night and good standards of driving :D

I've got some video of a few on track, had some good laps with some caterhams (red one in particular) but I'm not very clued up on whose they are

Having been to 9 Walshy days at carlimits.com, and seen many different cars, the elise is actually my favourite track car - if I didn't have so much money spent on my CSL I would have one in a flash. However it would need to be faster than McKeann's LOL
I recommend carlimits.com for driver training!
