Croft + a near death experience

Post by ryallm » Mon May 15, 2006 1:14 pm

Jamie and myself were at a NYLOC day at Croft on Saturday. It turned out to be rather wet, but it was still a great day. NYLOC are a very friendly bunch, track ettiquette was perfect, and Croft circuit is fab - so much faster and more flowing than KH. It would be good to get a larger SE contingent down to Croft later in the year - anyone be up for this? Dates of the days orgainsied by the circuit here http://www.croftcircuit.co.uk/car.php

Only down side of the weekend for me was on the way back up on Sunday when I came very, very close to a head on collision with some muppet in a Golf overtaking on a blind crest on the A701. Had to go onto the grass verge at 60 mph to avoid him. Car amazingly undamaged, but I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. Would have been ironic indeed if I had crashed a few miles from my house having driven over 500 miles at the weekend and thrashed the car round a wet circuit. Sort of confirmed my view that circuit driving really aint that dangerous - the biggest risk by far is from idiots on the road.

Jesus Mark! New shorts

Glad you got away unscathed though - that's the sort of thing that usually ends up causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to an innocent car, while the muppet responsible disappears into the night...

Croft is a good-un. Haven't driven it, but went down with the TSE contingent to support Ross in the Caterhams. That and Oulton are on the to-do list this year.

Would love to do Croft but IIRC its a 95dB limit?

Unless they do noisey days I would be stuffed.

Saturday was a 'noisy' day witha 105db limit, but they still tested every car static in the pit lane at the start of the day. The guy told me my car was only 96 which I was very surprised at as the Larini is bloody loud - I am actually convinced it is slowly but steadily getting louder for some reason. Not too sure what the limit is on the regular days organised by the circuit themeselves, but at the one I did last September there was no testing and some seriously loud cars there. You could always bosh your standard zaust back on for the weekend.

Too true. Used to drive the A68 every day, and the closest i ever came to crashing was a 3 series overtaking on a blind corner, and coming round a corner to find a police patrol car on the wrong side of the road - i swerved off the road and in to a layby to miss him! Neither there in my Elise though - but there was the deer episode

Agree on both counts -

- Would like to try Croft - never been there.

- Driving home from circuits is dangerous - recall coming back from KH, overtaking line of slow cars at full chat in Noble and Polo pulled out point blank range in my path - another grass verge incident to avoid contact. Don't think Polo ever noticed the drama behind her............
