'Ring this weekend
As a bit of a last minute decision, I'll be at the 'Ring this weekend
. I'll there Saturday evening and most of Sunday - and staying in Adenau Sat night. I've not been keeping up with postings recently, so anyone else planning to be there??

Sorry didn't see you last weekend. I got seven laps in between Sat evening and Sun before the track was closed. Do you know what happened on the Sunday?? I think someone was killed as I saw a hearse go round the circuit, but didn't see what happened.
When it closed I cleared off to Breidsheid, then decided to leave at about 2 o'clock, figuring even if it did open it would be manic busy.
Anyhow, before it closed I was doing well. A 9min 10 lap on the Sunday morning. I was chuffed....

I got 6 laps before it closed again at 7 pm.
2 bikers died and 1 severely wounded,
pile up of 7 ( ! ) bikes and 2 cars, black day .

that is the main fear,
casualties count for the region in comparison with the other regions of Germany, you can imagine the risk of somebody pulling the plug out of public days.
this accident was on the German radio the same day ( I listened to the broadcast standing next to Sabine listening to her car radio.
the whole driving after the closure was very agressive by most.
I did 6 laps in the 2 hours that it was open and on every lap there were at least 5 accidents every lap waiting to be recovered.
even around the Ring in the region there were quite a few accidents that same day.
(and this sunday there were mostly locals, so no complaints about Brits
)

No one cares about the accidents per se - feel free to kill yourself here, it doesn't matter to us - but the point is that on public days any accidents count towards the regional stats, while on track days they don't.mckeann wrote:not sure if the stats would change much if they stop public days.

I should say that a British track day there a couple of years back had such a high accident rate that the track owners have been reluctant to allow a British track day since, so they do sort of care ...
In my opinion the only solution is to abandon public days, which is sad, but there you go. Perhaps the ring could organise it's own track days?

Thanks for the info, Bob. I guessed it was bad, but didn't realise it was that bad.
I for one just don't see the Ring being open on this format of public days for too long - surely the powers that be can't let it continue like this. Let's just hope that, through track days or something, that access to the track is available somehow.
