SPA later this year

Post by ceejam » Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:02 pm

So, I missed out on the SE Spa trip last year as my daughter was being born.

I may have to sell the Elise in the forseeable future due to lack of time and pennies as a father, but I want to drive Spa before that happens, and SWMBO agrees.

Who fancies the LOT trackday on Thursday the 29th September?

Just an idea at the moment, but the lotus Cup Europe are racing that weekend, so might eb worth camping to watch the racing? They also have a trackday on Monday 3rd October, but availability is already limited.

Who's in?

EDIT - The double header on 12th/13th November is also a possibility, happy to gop then if more people are interested.

[big smiles]

If only I could, Jamie. Am trying to save up for Oulton in November. But I certainly agree, if you can, you should :-)

And don't rule out the keeping of the Elise despite the apparent challenges. For a man of your talents...

I would like to say yes to any Spa track day - it's a great circuit - but at present I cannot commit - will have to play by ear closer to the time.

Cheers,
Robin

Hi jamie

I was hoping to do the double header later in the year, but will see what most are going to do.

I've just updated the title & first post to see if there is more interest generally in doing Spa this year.

The double header weekend on 12th / 13th November is potentially more inviting for some?

I might be interested in the September dates.... I'd love to do a 'big' circuit.

It's a real pity the Rosyth - Zeebrugge ferry is no longer available to Joe public. What are you thinking about logisitics?

Newcastle/Ijmuiden works better for logistics (than Rosyth did...moot point now I guess).

I'd love to do one of these but alas lack of holidays.

Spa, mid November, in a 2-11...hmmm

November could make for a very good value and entertaining trip. Your tyres won't wear much in the cooler, wetter weather, and you will have a hoot on that track in the rain :-)

I have the enertaining experience of Robin "Trucker" Iddon's drive-thru-the-night approach, but confess I'd probably do Newcastle-Ijmuiden ferry on any future sortie.

Oh and I suggest you drive as little in Belgium as possible (!). Their m-ways were full of potholes and riddled tarmac last November, so God knows what they will be like after that winter :-(

You and I must have been on different roads Campbell - I thought the Belgian roads were great, apart from the worlds most confusing junction which I still have nightmares about.

The Newcastle ferry is the way to do it although it adds on a days travel at each end, but reduces the journey by 500 miles each way.

Accommodation has to be at Hotel de la Source

I think if I go this year it would have to be the November double header - September is just too soon after Frolic.

Were you not thinking of the French roads? Driving outward was bad enough, when we could see the holes and riven tarmac coming...driving back in the pouring rain, we drove through several "fast-lane" puddles which were masking tangible potholes. Not good. I think your fancy Exige suspension masked the whole lot :-)

Did you head back through Brussels or avoid it? I dont remember too many potholes, but then I'd had a decent nights sleep beforehand and waited for the weather to dry up :D

Well it's all a bit of a blur Neil, as we spent a lot of the drive also looking in the mirror to make sure Tut was still on the road ;-) but I think we avoided Brussells. I have never been so glad to see the French border...

All great fun all the same eh!

Yes great fun, but so much better when you have a little more time to take in the surroundings. Plus the hotel does a great pint of Jupiler!
