Ingliston Hire

Post by chris_c201 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:48 pm

Hi all,

I've done a couple of the track days at ingliston, last one organised by Kenny.

Was wondering how you go about hiring the track and approx costs?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Will dig out the details and drop you a pm.

The cost has gone up in recent times, it's still relatively cheap but they are now asking for insurance cover which bumps the cost quite a bit.

Ah ok, cheers Kenny. Few friends and family who've always fancied a go on track but would never do a track day so thought I'd look into it...

Ingliston as in at the airport? They used to do racing there years ago when I was a little boy.
Is there a circuit again there now?

There has always been a circuit, just not used as a full track in recent times apart from the odd rally event. Various groups have hired the south track area for sprint events in recent years.

AFAIK part of the original circuit has been built upon; but most of it still exists. We tend to use parts of the circuit and the maze of in-field roads to make new tracks.

I used to race mini-motos there, lots of buildings near the old track now but there's plenty of other little roads as you say.

Really enjoyed it, nice and tight :D

That looks like great fun and it's only about 4-5miles from my house. :)

I recognised the section where it went onto the old back straight to the hairpin but it juts off just before you would reach the old grandstand area which is now just turf. :(

The complete track is still there, but there is a grandstand on top of 'Arena'.

I did a couple of British Championship Sprints there in 2010 & 2011.

We started just after the Grandstand, up through the Esses, & finished at Clock, the lefthander at the entrance to Arena.

Track is a little broken up in places, breaking the suspension on British sprint champion Stewart Robb's car!

To echo Jamies point, not sure what the surface is like now. One of other experience companies still operates from there, but when we were there the surface was breaking up.

Make it clear though if you want to hire it, you arent operating it for profit, otherwise they will bend you over........

I was thinking about how much fun Kenny's event was the other day and whether there would be another one. It was a great little track that Kenny laid out. If you were going to let others be part of it then I'd be very up for it and I'm sure others would be. :-)

I'll look into it and keep everyone posted. Would only be interested in covering the costs so will highlight that, cheers Andy.

Thanks,
Chris

If insurance issues become a problem, I may have an idea to get around that; running the event with an MSA permit through a motorsport club I know well,... just a thought for now.
