Federal RSR
Federal RSR
Anyone tried them, Mass?
Needing a new set of rear tyres for the S2k, currently on AD08's but don't seem to be any 245-40-17 left as they are bringing out the AD08"R" soon! Problem is I will need them to drive home from SIDC on the 22nd! Ronnie from WheelsAround has said he will fit them for me as he is also unable to get his hands on any AD08's.
I have been very impressed with the AD08 on both road and track so hoping for similar performance.
Seem to be a good bit cheaper too

Re: Federal RSR
Yes Mike.
It's well worth for the money. Less dry grip but much better in the wet than R888s. Also less road noise too.
Mine are 235 front and 285 rear on 18 inch wheels. Just over 500 GBP a set!!!!! 450 GBP cheaper the the R888s.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Cheers Mass.
Do they come with 8mm new? How they holding up to the drifting
The rears for my S2000 are about £60-70 a tyre cheaper!
Think I will give them a go

Re: Federal RSR
Not sure of the starting depth but I don't think they were quite as deep as 8mm.
I did over 300 proper sideways in them after which the outer edges were nearly bold so I have now swapped the tyres from left to right I reckon, even with both outer treads gone, there should be enough treads left in the centre to be road legal (so you can drive home). As the 996 c2 is down on the power and has a great rear traction, the R888s were too sticky to slide the car at will. So, slower but more fun with the Federal
Try them and see.

Re: Federal RSR
I was looking at these too as a set of AD08's for the zed would be £750 and the 888's/A048's much more.
The RSR's would be £560 which is roughly the same as a set of normal road tyres. Just need to decide whether or not it would really need them or just stick with more normal road tyres.
Don't really want ultra sticky rubber either as it'll make it less fun.

Re: Federal RSR
"I done a small review on Meganesport recently...
I'm not great at doing full reviews but I will give you my thoughts on the use I have has out of them so far.
I had a trip planned last week that would include driving to the Ring and Spa which would include several road miles so no better time to try a new set of tyres.(1300 miles)
Got a set of Federal's delivered to my door for £450ish so they were defenately worth a punt.
I have used loads of 888's before but not on the Meg so I am only going with my experience with 888's on my VXR220, approx 900kgs.
On the road they have less road noise than 888's and the grip from cold was very impressive. We didn't have many road miles in the wet but in the dry I was very impressed.
At the Ring I really didn't push it at all so the tyres never got over worked but what I threw at them them took with no issues.
When we got to Spa and learnt the track I started pushing them pretty hard for 20 min sessions and the grip was very close to 888 performance. If anything they had a slightly softer side wall and you could fell a tiny amount of roll but nothing worth talking about.
They did eventually go off which I didn't experience with 888's but as I said before that was on my 900kg VX and I have read reports that on heavier cars 888's also go off.
After the Spa day was over I noticed a chunk out of one of the side walls but on inspection I don't think it should effect the use of the tyre any further although I will keep my eye on it. I don't know how I lost this as I didn't hit any debris on track, maybe a kerb?
When I got home on Sat I swapped all the wheels around inspected the amount of tread left and it is unbelievable. The look like they haven't been abused apart from the side wall on the fronts which took a bit of hammer.
All in I reckon if you are trying for the last 10th I would go for 888's but for an all rounder at nearly half the price these tyres will take some beating. I would love to do a back to back comparison so if someone want's to lend me there 26R on 888's for a track day drop me a PM!"

Re: Federal RSR
The RSR might not be quite the bargain they look as they come with 6.5mm tread depth except the 225/45-17, which has only 5.2mm. AD08's come with 8mm. Not a massive difference, but still.BigD wrote:I was looking at these too as a set of AD08's for the zed would be £750 and the 888's/A048's much more.

I only like the AD08's or similar as I find they don't melt/go off as quick on track compared to a road tyre, guessing due to the bigger tread blocks?

Re: Federal RSR
Yeh fair point, I was really comparing them with 888/48's which only come with 5mm too. AD08's would make more sense as a road tyre and occational track tyre. Or I might try the Maxxis R1's purely as they have a bike name.
Re: Federal RSR
What sizes you running D?

Re: Federal RSR
They're an awkward size as standard 225 45 18 front and 245 45 18 rear which is pretty hard to get in standard tyres never mind track day ones. Think the easier sizes would be 235 40 18 front and 265 35 18 rear.

The tyres are not as sticky as R888 but much better than the normal road tyres. They are very good in the wet.
Tut, the tyre review was written by the guy who sold me the R26.R! Don't think he was a fast driver though.

I have a set of z4m wheels (standard) with no tyres if you are interested!BigD wrote:They're an awkward size as standard 225 45 18 front and 245 45 18 rear which is pretty hard to get in standard tyres never mind track day ones. Think the easier sizes would be 235 40 18 front and 265 35 18 rear.
I was looking at these RSR's for the M3, 245/35/19 on the front and 265/35/19 on the rear, I always run contisport3's but they just don't last long enough and at around 1k per set its not ideal!

Sorry, I should have been clearer in that it is a Nissan Z car not a BMW one. Can't afford the BMW veriety.ClarkyBoy wrote:I have a set of z4m wheels (standard) with no tyres if you are interested!BigD wrote:They're an awkward size as standard 225 45 18 front and 245 45 18 rear which is pretty hard to get in standard tyres never mind track day ones. I was impressed by the speed of the Z4M up the main straight at Knockhill on Saturday, left me for dead.

Ah ok, I see, they both run the same stupid tire sizes too!!BigD wrote:Sorry, I should have been clearer in that it is a Nissan Z car not a BMW one. that's Z4m was Jamie's I sold my blue one a while back,
I did a few laps near you driving his one and I was amazed at the speed of the car compared to the 2 e46 M3's on the track at the time, very impressive.
