A classic track for 2014?
A classic track for 2014?
With the launch of the business in late 2012, 2013 was never going to be a gala year for track day indulgence!
So, like several F1 teams, I'm looking to 2014 already
But where to set the sights?
I have had a rather blessed if sheltered journey through track day experiences in my 14 years of Elise ownership. In increasing order of grandeur...
Chimay (French kart circuit!)
Goodwood (OK only 1 lap behind a pace car)
Crail
East Fortune
Knockhill
Donington Park (original circuit)
Anglesey Coastal
Oulton Park
Nurburgring Nordschleife
Spa
So what now?
My current ideas (no particular order) are...
Cadwell Park
Donington Park (updated layout)
Hethel
Silverstone (not GP)
Brands Hatch (Indy)
Zandvoort
I'm also curious about various venues visited by French Frolic.
Remember. I drive an S1 with broadly a road setup, decent brakes, revvy but modest power output, on road tyres, and 100,000 miles on the clock. I would describe myself as "intermediate" in terms of track day experience. And with the attitude that I must drive the car home, fully intact, after each outing. Just in case this has a bearing on your suggestions.
Your response should include:
- your own experience of the track in question
- specifically why you think I will appreciate it.

Cadwell will be fun in any car, its just awsome,a must for next year.
Zandvoort is the same. 30 mins from the newcastle ferry. I think there is a lot tour on the cards for next year....Spa, Zandvoort and Zolder.....that would tick all the boxes

That's great, Stu, what a brilliant starter for 10!
Caldwell was high on the list. It just got higher

Zandvoort is an amazing track with a good mix of ballsy corners
Cadwell is an exiting small track by comparison
Narrow and like Oulton suffers from standing water/greasy surface under trees in inclement weather
The full circuit at Brands is also fun as you have learned most of it from years of armchair viewing
The downside is a very long drive back to God's country

Proof that no matter how specific your question some bugger will interpret it how they choose.
Agree you need a tick in the box marked Cadwell.
You also need to do a frolic type event. SpaZZ next year...

Is there a specific event called "SpaZZ", then?! Where might one find the lowdown?alicrozier wrote: You also need to do a frolic type event. SpaZZ next year...

Re: A classic track for 2014?
Agree with the Zanvoort sentiments, it is indeed an excellent circuit which can be slippy with the sand that gets blown on so not without it's exciting sections. Couple of corners at the back of the circuit I just couldn't get though, very tricky. Quite wearing on tyres too from memory. The final 2 corners are extremely ballsy too.
When I was there I stayed in a lovely beach house which was different. Shame it was winter!
I liked brands hatch and Caldwell too but would rather do zandvoort for the all round experience.

Re: A classic track for 2014?
Brands gp is one of the best tracks ever.

Re: A classic track for 2014?
OK so Zandvoort is emerging from European POV, and Cadwell for UK.
that's good enough to focus on for now
The SpaZZ gig may be a financial bridge too far but we'll see.
