SIDC at Alford, Sunday 5th August (all day)

Post by JohnStewart » Wed Jun 20, 2007 2:46 pm

A few of you have attended our events at Alford over the past few years.

The format is that we'll have the sprint track in use from about 10:30am until about 4pm. There will also be static display areas for cars, visiting car clubs, show and shine competition, trade stands[1].

There's no charge to come along, though will will be collecting donations for charity on the gate.

There will be a £10 charge to take your car on track (one car at a time) for as many timed runs as you can fit in during the day. I would expect most people would get at least 4 or 5 runs of 3 laps, as we'll limit the number of cars taking part.

There's no pre-booking required - all you need to do is to turn up on the day, park up, watch the cars going around, and sign on as a driver if you want. There's no prizes, trophies or different classes for going around the track - it's all just for fun :).

Tut, Scotty and others have attended in the past and had a great time!

John

[1] Any Trade stands are more than welcome to attend on the day, and there's no charge for attending! All we ask is that you let us know in advance that you are coming (email john@sidc.co.uk with Alford in the title) so we can pre-allocate you enough space, and that you are set-up by about 10am, to make things easier for the cars arriving during the day.

John

Tut and I ( and a few other SEr's) will be heading off to France for 2 weeks, not to sure on times as yet but I am sure we will be driving down south on the Sunday.

Shame to miss this as it's always a good day.

Agreed it's a great day! I remember chasing Jools' Scooby round in thinfourths 7 (it was faster than the Exige). :)

FF is a Tuesday morning Channel crossing so we probably wouldn't need to leave until the Monday...?

I fly back into Aberdeen on Thur 2nd and I was also considering looking in on Kames on the Sat/Sun...

Scotty,

why not come out to Alford on the Sunday morning, have lunch, and then head down south via Braemar :)

Ali - would be good to see you if you can make it along. Hope they are treating you well out in Africa!

Hi John,

Whats needed - helmet, overalls, etc? - do i need a timing beam cutter thing?
Id like to come out for a shotty - Im over in Blackburn, so not too far away. I wouldnt want to make a fool of myself though - will there be lots of spectators??!!
What time should I turn up to ensure plenty of track time?
Will I look stupid in my Exige? - or will there be a big mix of cars?
Sorry for all the Q's

No helmet, overalls or anything else required but you can wear them if you have them (to be honest they took the pi$$ out of my gloves last time).
Real mix of cars, my Exige was there last time...Scooby, Lotus, Caterham, Corvette, and all manner of other stuff.

A fair number of spectators but the track driving is more about participate than spectate. :D

Oh, turn up early and you'll probably get lots of runs in before it gets busy...

The SIDC route is:
1 lap of the oval
1 lap figure of 8
1 lap oval

Don't worry, people still get lost, do an extra lap etc. ;)

In the Exige it's 1st gear off the line then 2nd everywhere, just nudging the rev limiter on the straights. Some cars need 3rd.
Line is critical on the crossovers, the first is almost flat but the 2nd one is much tighter (and bumpier).

I'm sure Gareth had some video somewhere... :D

Can anyone tell me where Alford is as I am a foreigner and don't now nuffink. This sounds like fun in the Atom, so long as it is not to far from home to drive in the rain !

Oh no. Just looked at the map and it is in Lincolnshire? Or is there another Alford up here somewhere ??

Thanks, that was quick. Near Aberdeen? That's as bad as Lincolnshire.

Sadly 180 miles is too far for me...
