Ever thought about sprinting? (X-post from Jock7)

From the Jedi Master

"I'm often asked what's needed to participate in a MSA Sprint at Kames or Forrestburn and the answer is always the same - Very little

Your car, if it's road taxed is fine, just fit a beam breaker, to trigger the timing lights and a wee sticker near the ignition switch that points to "off"

Then get yourself a fireproof suit and make sure you crash lid has the correct sticker.

Now racing's different but the suit needed for a sprint can be made from Proban treated cotton or Nomex.
Nomex suits are 2-300 quid, Proban suits are 65 upwards.

If there is enough interest then I can get the minimum requirement suit for £30, It'll be more like a boiler suit but with cuffs, collar and zip.

I have a design of timing strut that will fit the front grill and I'll do the little sticker for "off"

This would mean that any of you can try a sprint at the minimum cost and still have a pair of overalls to use when changing your pads and ball joints.

There's only one catch, the manufacturer will only do a minimum run of 40 suits.

So does anyone want a Proban Suit? He'll do any sizes I ask for but it's Navy Blue or Orange only, actually I asked him to forget about the orange ;)

I have a sample here, just need a model for the piccy :)

BTW I had the suit checked out by the MSA scutineer that wouldn't let tut drive as normal with no shoes, luckily he was over ruled by the clerk of the course that day . ;) So it's all OK on that front"

That's exactly what everyone thinks...
truth is you'd be fine and if there were 4 or 5 of us in the class it'd be very close

Wrong, wrong, wrong . . . :D

I did a couple of sprints/hillclimbs last year and was off the pace a little, I had non competitive tyres (for the class) and the wrong things going on inside my head . . . lob on some nice sticky fresh rubber and some better mental preperation and I have 8 class wins from 8 entries . . . driving god ? . . . well I might like to think so in my dreams but no . . . very average . . . faster car ? . . . well not really - some of the competition have the same basic car and some have larger engines . . .

In reality, for me anyways, a win is a bonus, the real enjoyment comes from the amount you learn about youself (a lot) and your driving (a lot) . . . that's not to say I like anything other than a win of course or don't try bloody hard to get one ;-)

If you entered A8 marque sportscars (no honda'd cars allowed unfortunately) then I think it unlikely that you would be the person embarrased . . .

Time is running out this season . . .

Here's the calander . . .

http://www.hoymotorsport.pwp.blueyonder ... _dates.htm

And here's where you get your licence . . .

http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentVi ... ticle=2590

You need a 'Speed National B' . . .

It would be great to see a gaggle of smarties involved at one of the big events this year . . .

Oh and if there is any place where a CR gearbox will be an advantage . . . it's this ;-)

fd is exactly correct. Look at the record of S_E entries in both the Scottish Sprint and Hillclimb Championships, and LOTRDC.

Lawrence has been going for some time, but has been in probably the most competitive Class of the series, always with less power than the Nicol's, but always up near the top and fighting. Fd in his first year is cleaning up in his own Class.

In 2005 Ali was overall Sprint Road Car Champion, and there is a good chance that I could have taken over as the overall Scottish Sprint Champion if I had not ended up in hospital, and that was in our first season.

Neil will probably win Class B in the race series, and Andy will do well in Class A having come in half way through. Likewise Jamie who has just had his first race.

You have been on track with all of us, so just weigh up how you think that you would embarass yourself.

Do what I did and go in to try and embarass the rest with the plastic rollerskate.

Stick Mandy down for one - I'll get her to compete in one of the cars (hopefully)

I'd like to try but scared in case I binned it.
If there was a sprint with good run offs I would like to.

G,

Just buy your self some GF wings and a nose.

That's all you'll break - just swap the CF one for the GF ones before the event and swap back afterwards.

RAF Lossiemouth sprint . . . on the runways and taxiways of Lossie RAF base . . . more runoff you could not ask for . . .
