For sale is my 2002 Golf GTI TDI.
It’s the 1.9 PD engine with 150bhp and 6speed manual gearbox.
Completely standard car which has never been modded. Comes with the usual GTI specification which includes;
Climate Control (blows nice and cold)
Sports seats
Trip Computer
16inch Montreal II alloys (no kerb marks at all)
Electric windows and heated mirrors
Factory fit single CD player
Remote locking and alarm with both flip keys
I’ve also installed an armrest.
Mechanically it has been serviced every 10k miles since new (recently it has been done more often).
I purchased it last September on 80k miles and immediately had it serviced at a VW/Audi specialist. I also had the cambelt and waterpump replaced at the same time. All paperwork to back this up is included.
In my ownership is has also had;
Radiator fans replaced - common fault on mkIV platform cars. The radiator fans are supposed to run at a low speed constantly to keep the air con compressor cool. The low speed resistor burns out meaning that the fans do not run and the compressor overheats and aircon stops working. Every mkIV I viewed when looking for this one had that fault and it costs £300 for the fans alone.
Large section of the turbo to intercooler pipework replaced - another common fault on the 150 TDIs. The pipes into and out of the intercooler wear, come loose and pop off resulting in no boost. I’ve had both of these replaced along with the plastic pipe which runs from the intercooler to the EGR valve.
Front Lower wishbone arms replaced- Needed new bushes at the rear of the arms and it wasn’t much more expensive to replace the entire lower arm which includes front and rear bushes and ball joints.
I also did some small jobs which can be common niggles on a mkIV such as fixed the leaking rear washer, and removed the dash and wrapped it with felt to stop annoying squeaks (interior is squeak and rattle free)
Cosmetically the car is in good condition for an 11 year old car. I machine polished it when I got it and it came up very well as you can see from the pics.
However it is an 11 year old car so it is not mint.
Both front wings have tiny areas of rust appearing under the paint (again common on mkIVs). At the moment these are just bubbles under the surface and have not broken the paint.
There is also a patch of rust on the rear quarter and a scratch on the bonnet and on the leading edge of the roof. It looks like the two scratches were possibly done when installing a new windscreen as they are in odd places. They have been professionally touched up though by the looks of things and show no signs of rusting.
I’m just trying to be as honest as possible with the description, overall it looks good. When I had my private plate on it people did not think it was as old as it is.
There are very few stonechips to the front and the wheels have all been refurbished recently and have no kerb marks at all.
Overall it’s a genuine unmolested car with a very low milage which has a good blend of comfort and economy with a touch of pace when needed.
It’s also had a lot of the common large bills for these cars already dealt with so it shouldn’t cost it’s new owner too much.
It is MOT’d until Jan 2014 and Taxed until end of June 2013. Currently showing 88,500 miles but this will rise slightly as I am still using the car.
I live in Kirkcaldy and work in Edinburgh so the car can be viewed in either location (depending on my shift pattern). Viewings and test drives welcome with proof of insurance.
Price is £3,250 ono
No part-exchanges please as I already have my new car.
