S2 Front End Clam

Post by Michael » Fri Apr 14, 2006 6:57 pm

S2 front end. Clam was partially peeled off by door being opened 30 degrees beyond its limit..dont ask! It took a year to prove it wasnt my fault, but hey.

Cobalt blue. Damage is structurally very minor and mostly completely hidden. In fact if you fitted it you would have to look for any signs of it.

Im happy to hold on to it. I intend to keep my elise forever and will make use of it if I ever stuff it! :)

Paintwork mint ie. very few stone chips (I dont tailgate!).

grounded at front but not perforated. Visible damage is slight on trailing edge of off side wing ie. where the door panel came forward and met it. there is a crack under the service panel area but does not affect the strength of it in an impact at all. The offside clam mount was peeled from the clam, but a new one (eg. from your old clam) could easily be rebonded with resin.

Dont have pics and getting them would a bitch cos its behind a tonne of stuff in a long walk in cupboard. :?

Ill give you more info if you like

Hmm..an unexpected response guys...

Im feeling a bit dissillusioned about my car in general right now. Need help.

Gear change sucks the boaby (need to check the linkages cos MMC are so sh*t at doing this), hairdryer engine (need sports zorst for aural sex), fukcing scumbags all around who are seething with jealousy (already wasted one, but cant catch those who spit on it and cut me up).

Im thinking zorst or second car (jappo cheapo)...

Do you have the toyota or K-series engine'd car?

On the K-series the gear linkage is quite complex and the feel of it can be improved no end by (a) stripping, cleaning, lubricating and reassembling and/or (b) fitting something like Geary's linkage (not the quick shift, the other thing he sells). The result is much more positive gear change.

If you have the toyota engine it should work fine from new.

As to making the engine louder, there are plenty of sporty exhausts around and they are not too hard to fit, so probably worth it for the K-series.

For the Toyota engine anything other than the standard exhaust is perhaps not a good idea as they do get really loud (so-called Stage 2 exhaust), but it depends on how many motorway-type miles you do, to be honest. Ali is very happy with his Jim Valentine kit.

If you have the 111S (VVC-engined K-series) then you should consider stripping out the intake system and replacing with something else the 111S shipped with a heavily baffled intake for noise suppression so it needs to be ripped out!

Cheers,
Robin

Sorry to hear about the scumbags, don't let the barsteward get you down.

Stick with it mate.

If you're going to CRP it you need a MIL eliminator also to stop the engine check light illuminating. Personally I really wouldn't bother with CRP as it's loud and gives everyone following you a headache from the fumes (just imagine what a row of dodgy old Cortinas and Chevettes did for emissions - you would die in minutes!).

Cheers,
Robin

Michael,

Are you coming to the SIDC day?

I think I've got what you want :D

Janspeed supersport box and sport cat for a nice growling exhaust and the gearylinkage which makes a big difference.

Cheers

Hey Michael

Sorry mate, my initial response was somewhat harsh! The unfortunate things about having a car like this is loadas of muppets will have the desire to race and cut you up, but take the morale high-ground mate. Simply not worth the agro.

I had some fag try and race me down princess street. WTF. With my exaust thats never an option

Your providing society a service by drivng a car they can aspire to own :D

To my intital point though, I would definately recommend that you get the car out on track if you are going to switch clams, and give it an outing or two before putting the new one on it.

Hope you are feeling more positive about the whole thing

Andy

Andy's is a Stage 2 Lotus one but you don't get that for K engined cars.
If you can make it to KH on Sat, you'll be able to have a listen to a few and see what you like.

Hi MAc

Just had a Big Mac incidentally.

Anyway, how come youre getting rid of these items?

I would probably come to KH actually. Im sure i bumped into you at the start of March at KH...the fellow weegie could be heard among the other voices!

I take it they have come off your S2. Im a bit wary about the Janspeeds, baffles going and stuff. What can you tell me about them?

Cheers bud

Erm - Wrong end of the stick their Michael.

I was trying to say that most of your wish list is fitted to my cobalt blue S2.

Not getting rid of them - just thought you might like to hear how the car would sound with them fitted, thats all.

I've had the janspeed for 3 years now and not had a problem with it, saying that it is quite loud and has been know to vibrate the wall and windows of folks houses etc.

Stick with the elise - the sun is shining.
