Idea shelved for the moment!

Post by ed » Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:56 pm

I am seriously considering selling my car to fund a purchase of a S1 exige.
So does anyone have an idea what my car is worth?

Oct 05, 55 plate metalic black 2 Exige (8 months old)
1 owner from new.
Touring, air con, armourfend and tracker.
Covered 9400 miles,
just had its first A service, (yesterday) FLSH
warranty until Oct 2007.
4 new 48s(last friday)
Pagid 42s covered 2000 ish miles
Stage 2(along with original)

Opinions please?! cheers Ed :D

You'll obviously require me to do the Paine proxy test-driving again, won't you? ;) :thumbsup

As I say matey, I think £26k on a terrible day, and £28k on a great one :D

this one went for £28,950, but had the sporty seats and lower mileage (it was also a trade sale tho)...

I would love to buy it :chainsaw

Oh, Eduardo - go to http://www.exiges.com for the gen on S1's (pricing, ones for sale, that sorta thing) They are the only web board I've seen that approaches the friendly attitude of SE. Slightly draconian moderation, but then again, they did have Scuffers & Erland in open warfare on there...

I am not sure ed, lots of doom-mongers say exige residuals are dropping like kegs in a brothel, but i reckon 27 privately.

One must ask the question though, why?

Because it is far cooler.

SEOT :thumbsup

Seriously though - it's a more 'special' car. There can be no rational argumet for it, 'cos there's no logical reason you'd have the S1 Exige over the S2 (apart from track pace and residuals) He's fallen for the S1 and, looking at Uldis' again, you'd have to say - I would too.

What does SEOT mean? :?

I saw Uldis` s1 exige for the first time on Friday and I also thought it was schweet - it looks like a weapon with the wheels it has and engine mods etc.

And I think to say which is more special you`d have to at least have spent time owning / driving / with both, and hat off to Ed for wanting to give it a bash. Totally different cars.

You're right, totally different.

Ed, consider these plus and cons (financial factors aside):

S2 plus:
-newer
-more comfortable, quiet
-AC (probably)
-feels softer edged (some people like that)
-nice interior
-6 gears
-was going to say reliability but on the last two months I've sen it's about the same. sh*t happens.

S2 cons:
-heavier, robs power
-less downforce
-limited tuning (but will increase)
-you can add power and bits, but it's very difficult and expensive to remove weight.

S1 plus:
-classic, non aging lines (so exclusive, many S2's around now)
-only 600 made and abut 300-400 alive
-lighter so same power means faster
-more aerodynamic downforce
-even though K is no longer made, plenty of affordable tuning
-raw
-more direct feedback/pure feeling

S1 cons:
-not as comfortable (AC is a joke) if you go touring with it, better have an enthusiast G/F or she'll ditch you for the next guy in as S2
-noisier, harder, lumpier
-raw (some people don't like raw)
-more direct (ditto)
-some badly tuned K's out there, as the KingK article demonstrated. But can be rebuilt to my spec for about 3K and have it as it should have from factory. 5K should get you about 250 BHP and for Honda money you should get about 280.

In essence, I love my car and plan to keep it forever, but in an ideal word I would also have an S2 as a road car, just because I would like my wife to look forward to come on a drive with me and enjoy driving to France or Italy (because in the S1 it's HOT).

Drive one and then decide.

cheers for the advice thus far guys, its really appreciated. :thumbsup

However, I am going to put this idea to bed for the moment.

I am very fortunate to own my current car and it is truly an awesome machine. More training is what is required to make me fully appreciate this fact. Plus as im sure you all are aware i am as mechanically minded as a wet fart and dont feel that this change is right for me at the moment.

This idea is going to be shelved until i can afford both! 8)
cheers Ed :D
