Anyone have a spare on the garage floor they want shot of?? or know where to source?
haven't tried geary yet, but will do.

The first "upgrade" I got when I bought my car was the alloy TB. The old placie one was sticking when hot. I still have it if it will get you out of a pickle.
I bought mine off ebay from a MGF. Standard 48mm. I think it cost me about £50.
Here is a snip from an email I received from an esteemed SE'r of the time on the merits, or otherwise, of a larger TB.
"Should really check that it's the throttle body first, assume it's
sticking at say 1500ish rpm and a blip of the throttle sorts it out ?
Personally I'd recommend steering clear of the 160TB, it can cause lean
mixture . . . many people rave about them but those who are a little
less impressionable would say stick with standard . . ."
This is not a dig at John or any other with the larger TB, only the advice I received at the time.

Nice bit of diplomacy there, sadly lacking in some conversations here and thereStewart wrote:

I have a Trophy 160 TB on my standard S1, from the moment we fitted it (well mostly Robin, as ever...), I have been very impressed. Only did it because of similar sticky behaviour from plastic original so no expectations of monster performance improvements! No evidence of leaning mixture, and pleasant improvement in throttle response. No doubt no change in V-max etc, but at least it don't stick when you need it to least of all!!!
Just get an aly TB of whatever dia and be done with it.

Neil, have you got the alloy 52mm TB?
My car (WVTA) has only a plastic one which i assume to be 48mm. Reading seloc and PH thats seems to be more common than the 52mm TB?
I've been looking into this recently, and think i'll upgrade to an alloy 48mm TB, but remove the wedge, clean up the mould lines and solder the holes etc...Dave Andrews reckons this gives most of the benefits of the 52mm without hurting the low speed tractability
- which in the 160 is a problem anyway

Calypso Red S1 111s
poll added. been on for a couple of days and no-ones seen it (or no-one cares
). is this chat about it running lean a bit of a hit and miss, or is it a risk?? my usual thing is to replace with standard size part (although in ally), but if i can raise performance throughout the rev band and not compromise then i may as well go for the big fella.....
Ideas...?

maybe an 'unsure' option would help!MacK wrote:Just to even up the poll I voted for the 52mm.![]()
But I have no idea which one you should go for, wait for some expert advice.

Calypso Red S1 111s
Id done a bit of investigating with these after finding out they could be a mod for the K series.
From what ive found out:
56mm is actually worse. Its same as 52mm low down but looses up top end even worse than the 48mm. The 52mm is a good upgrade for 3-5bhp. The plastic 48mm comes in two versions, one that the flap opens to 90 degrees and the other to 45 degrees. As long as you have the 90 degree one and its not sticking I wouldnt touch it.
After all from what ive seen these are about £100. Thats £100 towards throttle bodies.
Leave them for the boy racers.

I voted 52mm... purely because my old R200 BRM had a 48mm plastic job (not that it was sticky or anything), and I swapped it out for a 52mm Ally. Seemed to improve throttle response a bit. Only difference there is that the BRM was a VVC unit.
It's an Ally one on my 135r, but no idea of size... 135 has the 111s Manifold I think, so I assumed it would be the 52mm... but I couldn't see a '52' stamped on it like the one I bought for the BRM had... so it may well be a 48mm.

(can't be arsed removing the TB to check the size faction)
