Jim Clark Leaflet

Post by Steady » Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:10 pm

Thankyou to those who have posted pictures of the Jim Clark Elise a couple of months ago :cheers :cheers
On the basis of those pictures, I have been a very silly old Hector, and ordered one

Apart from the Autocar news section, the only real information I can find about the car is the official Lotus Press Release.

Would any of you kind guys happened to have picked up a leaflet about it, that you could scan for me?

Thanks in anticipation,
Steady

Not silly at all - welcome along (assuming you have ordered the car and not just the picture !)

Afraid I can't help with the leaflet but take it you ordered the car from MMC ? If they don't have any left over I am sure they could get one for you :thumbsup

:ROFL Good one! I hope it's the actual car I've ordered and not just a picture!!

Actually, I didn't order it from MMC - I'm English  from way down south of the border, so I'm not sure if MMC would have exported one for me

I went down to the Goodwood Festival of Speed but there didn't seem to be a Lotus stand there
I should have come up to Scotland if I'd have known

The dealer I went to did say he'd send me a brochure when he gets some, but I'm worried this will be after I get the car (or never)
I just want to read about the car while I'm waiting...

Regards,
Steady

 It looks like I'll need to get my eyes tested before I take delivery of her (or should it be "him" if it's called Jim :?: ).
Apparently there was a Lotus stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed -
How on earth could I have missed this stand?

It doesn't look as though there were any brochures to be handed out by the girls manning the stand (who were obviously part of the Lotus 'Bodyless' ad campaign), but it would have been nice to see the car in the flesh.
Still, it will be a big surprise when my car is actually delivered, to find out what it's like

In tribute to Jim Clark’s achievements, Lotus, in association with Classic Team Lotus, is producing the Clark Type 25 Elise SC, with a donation for each of these special cars sold going to the Jim Clark memorial fund. This Elise, limited to just 25 cars in the UK (25 being the Type number of his 1963 Lotus F1 car and his number of F1 wins) has been authorised by the Clark family and coincides with the 40th anniversary of Jim Clark’s death at Hockenheim in 1968.
The Clark Type 25 Elise SC will be launched at The Scottish Classic SpeedFair at Knockhill on the 8th of June 2008 and will form part of a weekend long tribute to Jim Clark. The Club Lotus Jim Clark Remembrance Weekend will take place over the 7th and 8th of June and promises to be a fantastic celebration of the life of Jim Clark.
Mike Kimberley, CEO of Group Lotus Plc comments, “It is fitting that the latest version of our award winning Elise, the Clark Type 25 Elise SC, should celebrate the life of Jim Clark. It is also an honour to be able to unveil the car at Knockhill this weekend. Each owner of the Clark Type 25 Elise SC will be joining an unrivalled heritage that recognises motorsport’s greatest partnership, that of Lotus and Jim Clark.”
The Clark Type 25 Elise SC draws upon many styling cues from the Type 25 Formula 1 car that Jim Clark raced to win the World Championship in 1963. The car, with a removable hard top as standard, is finished in British Racing Green with a yellow stripe along the centre and features high performance Lotus Sport wheels, finished in an historic black and silver design. The interior is inspired by the Team Lotus Formula 1 cars of the era, with black leather sports seats, trimmed with red leather and all finished off with a fantastic retro wooden gear knob.
The Elise SC is the most powerful production Elise ever produced and offers stunning performance. Power comes from a 1.8 litre non-intercooled, supercharged engine and uses intelligent cam switching technology, enabling the engine to switch to the high performance cam anywhere between 4000 and 6200 rpm. This clever feature gives the engine two characters, allowing the car to be driven economically or giving maximum performance for spirited driving.
The Elise’s light weight gives low CO2 emissions, great handling and affords phenomenal braking. Another benefit of the low weight is incredible acceleration, with the sprint to 60 mph taking just 4.3 seconds and with 100 km/h despatched in 4.6 seconds. The Elise SC accelerates on to a top speed of 148 mph, which is 238 km/h.
All Lotus cars offer exceptional handling and the Elise is no exception. The chassis has a seriously light, stiff structure. Combining this technology with the fantastic Lotus ride and handling gives an inspiring driving experience and the mid-engined layout of the Lotus Elise offers fantastic balance and agility.
The Elise SC offers a few technological advances that Jim Clark may have found helpful in his Type 25. Coming as standard on the Elise is traction control, ABS and sequential shift lights, however all the driver aids are included to improve the driving experience and do not intervene unless really called upon.
The Clark Type 25 Elise SC is currently only available in the UK and Republic of Ireland and is on sale now. Price: £35,995 MSRP, and includes £5,750 worth of options for just £3,445. On the Road costs are £950 MSRP

Thanks Del,
delands wrote: The Clark Type 25 Elise SC ... with a yellow stripe along the centre . The interior is finished off with a fantastic retro wooden gear knob.

The sprint to 60 mph taking just 4.3 seconds and accelerates on to a top speed of 148 mph,

Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC
CO2 emissions – 202 g/km. Combined fuel consumption - 33.23 mpg (8.5 l/100 km)
From Lotus' own press release for Elise SC:
"But, the Elise SC is electrifying – 0-60 mph in 4.4 secs (estimated); top speed 150 mph (estimated).

The fuel economy of the Elise SC is impressive with an estimated combined figure of 9.1
litres / 100 km (31.0 mpg)."

Obviously the improved acceleration and better fuel consumption can be explained by the weight saving due to the wooden gear :knob , but surely the yellow go-faster stripe should add 2mph to the top speed, not reduce it by 2mph.

Now I realise if you took 100 identical Elise SCs with 100 different drivers on 100 different days you would get wildly varying test results, but I'm assuming Lotus' figures for the Jim Clark car are estimates, and if so, why aren't they exactly the same as their estimates for the standard SC?

At least I can now justify to myself the extra money for the Jim Clark version on the basis of two and a quarter extra miles per gallon. :drive

Ah, right, I'd seen that - I thought maybe you'd seen the leaflet and it was the same as the press release.

So both are from the Lotus press office, but the quoted performance is not exactly the same. I wonder why?
Autocar states "the [Jim Clark] supercharged Elise-based model retains the standard car’s performance"
Top Gear states "Mechanically, it's a stock Elise SC"

If I understand correctly, it is a standard Elise SC with:
Hardtop (although I bet the quoted performance is without)
Leather seats and wooden gear knob
"high performance Lotus Sport wheels" - maybe Lotus quote faster accleration and a lower top speed due to the wheels - I wonder if they're lower inertia but less aerodynamic, or whether the rear tyre size is smaller?

Ah, wait a minute, it's got traction control too - maybe Lotus think that's worth a tenth of a second?

Well, I shall'n't worry about it for the next week, since I am off on holiday :wavey

I think I might have found what's on the Jim Clark leaflet - a list of his 25 GP wins, Indy 500 and World Championship wins:
Image

Also Lotus have today issued a press release with a "Specification Summary:

Ø Elise SC
Ø Sports Pack
Ø Hard Top
Ø Unique Leather Interior
Ø Unique exterior in British Racing Green, with Painted Yellow Stripe.
Ø Unique Lotus Sport Forged Wheels 6 J x 16 Front, 7½ J x 17 Rear with YokohamaAO48 tyres
Ø Build Plate numbered 1 – 25"

I'm not sure what a steady driver like myself will do with YokohamaAO48 tyres? Probably stay indoors if it's raining... :?

Here's a couple of new pictures from the press release:

Hi DJ,
I knew there were a total of 50 for the whole world (at least that's the basis on which I've bought mine).
As far as I understand, Lotus choose to release it first in Scotland after the memory of Jim Clark, so there were initially 25 available in UK and Ireland, then the other 25 were released later to the rest of Europe.

I have eventually managed to get a copy of the leaflet. I was just going to post up a picture of it, when like a silly old Hector, I realised you meant the car, so here she is
