Afraid I'm not convinced Martin, sorry . . . I don't mind stripes, but I think they have to have a good contrast with the background colour. Just don't think they "jump out" enough.
But as long as you like them, that's the most important thing

Maybe I need to see them in the "flesh" to see what they really look like?

Hear what you're saying but i wasn't really going for a shouty contrast - i photoshopped silver and white and didn't like either. There is a black car in murray's at the moment with matt black stripes that i quite liked........subtle styleeeee
They are principally there as i fancied a change, and to hide the mahousive stone chips / hold the front of the clam together

I saw that Elise when i was down a couple of weeks ago and didn't really see the point in stripes as you can hardly see them.

Not seen that specific car at MMC, but have seen thin black matt stripes on a black cayman & it looked

IMO. Doesn't shout out "STRIPES!!", but in sunlight the contrast between matt & gloss in the same colour looked sweet. It's what prompted me to go for matt when I had the 'aqua machine' done.
Donkey... Thick stripe works quite well on the VX, although I prefer the look of yours from the back.... actually... looking again... I think it's because there is no badge on the front part of the clam to break the stripe up. Had there been a badge, like on the back... I think that would have finished it off nicely.

So what you're saying is a need someone to photoshop up a Lotus badge, change the lettering to LEGO, get it made up and slap it on the front of the clam ?
Good idea.
C'mon photoshop peeps
EDIT:
Or maybe just this but in black

Looks as good as I though it would
Will need to dig out the pic I have of it from when you put that Lotus badge on the front grille.

Looks great LD, I've often toyed with the idea myself, perhaps a green and gold theme...perhaps not.
Is that a real Steinmetz grille or did you find a substiturte material?
But then the VX looks better than an Elise in any livery
