Some Merc pictures

Post by gorrie » Sun Aug 21, 2011 5:37 pm

I fell out of love with our Renaultsport Megane maybe 6-9mths ago... but with job uncertainty earlier this year & then the holiday period after that, I'd never got round to doing anything about it. Nice car to drive at 10/10ths... but when pootling along on day-to-day driving my attention was always drawn to the fact that the interior was taken straight from the bog standard Megane... and there was just no sense of... well.. anything really.

Finally stuck it on PH a week and a half ago & it sold within 2 days.. :)
So, last weekend, I placed a deposit on something to waft the family about in... which didn't necessarily need to be driven at 10/10ths in order to enjoy it's merits. I took a flight down to Manchester yesterday to pick it up. It's a W211 vintage E500 Avantgarde... which I know may not be the best vintage for build quality... but the W210 just looks a bit dated I feel. So far, absolutely loving the pull the V8 has right throughout the range... effortless... and at times downright surprising

I quizzed the seller on whether he had stuck that AMG badge on the back & he said that the dealer had put it on from new since some AMG options (eg wheels) had been ticked. Not sure whether I'll take it off or not, as really, it needs to be an E55/E63 to properly wear that badge.
There's some other nicely ticked options as well such as the panoramic roof, heated seats front & rear (so the little guys can have a toasty bum & back in winter as well), and the Harmon/Kardon Logic7 system. I'm still trying to work out what else it's equipped with at the moment (not worked out all the buttons yet).
Went for a family jaunt in it today and the little guys were happy.. as was the wife :)
The dynamic seats are soooo comfy & the side bolsters firm up as it senses you going hard in to a corner.

No doubt in 3 months time when the snow comes, I'll regret not having bought a 4x4 though.

Andy.

The double panoramic sunroofs are a big favourite of mine, the wife's S-Max have them. Great looking cruiser :)
