Thanks again folks. Been a while since I photographed anything and it was nice to (mostly) enjoy it again. Good fun going over the Carbrach in the snow, got some odd looks from people in landrovers etc.
Graeme, only 2 seats in an R8 or you'd have been welcome. Wouldn't have known what to do with the speedlite if it wasn't for your help.
Tut, never mind the shotgun treatment on Jamie, you'll need it to convince me to do a wedding!!

Cracking shots - I really like these. Clearly a bit of thought went into them before you pressed the shutter and then no doubt a wee bit of post processing?

I recently realised that I now have more than 15,000 photos on my hard drive (no not that kind!) so have just bought Lightshop 4 to help me manage them. Enjoying the post processing function in the software, been particularly useful when scanning my negatives. Apologies for thread drift

Agreed, absolutely fantastic!

Need to head up to ABZ, spend some time with big G, and hook up with a few of the ABZ lot for a few beers. Missus is up there most weeks, so would to meet up and get a few beers down my grid!

As for the wedding photographer part, nuts of steel to do it, but first time nerves (and for Tut's daughter!) i'd not sleep well the night before. I love doing wedding photography, but as a backup/evening photographer as the pressure is off!

Hi Stewart,

I normally plan ahead, scout a location and have an idea of what shots I want to get and then usually think of a few extra on the day. On this occasion I had no time to plan and we just kind of winged it. I've made so many mistakes in the past so try to think carefully about backgrounds and positioning etc before pressing the shutter and use the histogram and screen to check exposure, focus etc. Nothing worse than getting home and finding the lenses had fogged up of there is a tree growing out of the car
There is indeed post production, I see it as a part of the process of taking a picture. I might under or over expose an image intentionally and correct it in raw in order to get the detail in the highlights/shadows. The amount of processing depends on the subject and I push it a wee bit further with cars than with landscapes etc. Too many people have heard me rant in person about bad photoshop :D and it's one of the things I need to improve as well.
All of the raw images here were converted in Lightroom 3, best program ever, I have no idea how I coped before it. Cloning, layers adjustments and sharpening I do in photoshop.

Dave come on up, good pub here and a ton of whisky :beer

Sounds like a plan, we'll have to make sure Scotty is free and not nest making and cake baking! :thumbsup

:) Thanks for sharing your process. I am generally too lazy to put as much thought in and rely on winging it. I have no idea about histograms and how to affect it - I clearly should take the time to learn  . I also always shoot in jpeg and it seems to work fine but should perhaps change that to raw also.

I recently replaced my ageing Nikon D70 for a D7000 which I am really liking. Incidentally my old D70 (body only) is for sale at the mo' on ebay for £90.

Having just shelled out £80 fro Lightroom 4 I am determined to try a little harder this year
