He was the batch who came in after the poisioned dwarfs if that helps with the time line. I remembering seeing pictures of him beside a big gun and of the stories about some of the tactics employed such as pipe bombs with cash sticking out the ends of the boxes etc.

Fortunately I did not take part in the war on the ground in Aden, just covered the withdrawal which is probably when you father pulled out.

I was safely ensconced in Singapore from '66 to '70 with no wars for once, my main duty being to check out the fleshpots.

Kev

Again we would have been there at the same time, '63-'65 for me, but I was on the ground then after just finishing my Commando training. He would have been based at RAF Labuan. Ask him if he remembers 40 & 42 Commandos front line positions at Seria, Kalabatan, Sapit and Serudang Laut.

If you look at the Roll of Honour list, Kranji Military Cemetary, you will see Cpl Pete Daniels name(spelt wrongly), 40 Commando, November '65. I was on my last patrol before returning to the UK after 18 months in the Borneo jungle, when we we ambushed, single file, on a jungle trail. Pete was my Section Corporal and a mortar round took his head of, concussd me, and two others out of the 8 man section were wounded, but not badly.

Immediate action was to dive into the side of the jungle and run like f**k, then calm down and make your way to the RV. We did not have individual radios in those days, so it was every man for himself. We all made it to the jungle clearing, and our own helicopters came in and pulled us out.

Guess what started me off on a flying career? Got my wings the following year in '66, just after we won the World Cup.

Tut - have you ever come across a Jack or Phillip Harrall on your travels?
