Hey greg,
i mainly used a small aperture roughly f8 to f11 just to have a decent depth of field.
shutter speeds were figured out by bracketing the exposures.
i kept a low ISO so that there was no extra noise thrown into the photos.
hope that helped slightly.

Cheers Adam, all help is appreciated 
I'm still finding my feet with the 450D - sometimes I thing all of the different settings are more of a hinderance than a blessing so god knows what you lads have to deal with on your 'real' camera bodies!
