Cracking images as always, Gary :thumbsup

Your PP workflow would be an interesting read, there's clearly a fait amount of manipulation - but the result works nicely... the clarity and toning range you achieve is beautiful.

A fair bit, very roughly I do the following

1: Almost always I under expose as I am a huge fan of "what you can't see" if that makes sense
2: I increase contrast a lot
3: I increase "clarity" a lot, I think it enhances "local contrast" a little
4: I resize and sharpen

Most of the time, thats ALL I do...

However, when presented with difficult exposures due to extreme whites or blacks, I will obviously blend two or more images to ensure a dynamic range which the camera is incapable of creating on its own. And with the sunsets, I might add warmth or increase the red to really drive home that summer feeling :)

Bracketed exposures, one for the car, one for the sunset, blended into one shot. Common technique, used to be done in the darkroom too.

Errr... isn't that what HDR is? I'm confused now.

HDR is when you take multiple exposures (all of them different), and then Tone Map them, normally using something along the lines of Photomatix etc. The difference is pretty astounding, as the entire scene is sampled and mixed across the entire exposures I think. What I have done, is taken a soft edged selection, and deleted the dark area from where the car is, with the lighter exposure behind it.

My explanation of HDR is not technical, and likely not right either :D However, its the only way I know it.

Cheers,

Gary.

Awesome shots Gary :thumbsup

Love your take on the Forth Rail Bridge, there are so many shots of it, and so many many average ones.

My understanding was that HDR imaging broadly covered any image created using a composite of a number of exposures to create a final image which would not otherwise be possible due to having a dynamic range beyond the capability of the equipment (which closely resembles our own eye, therefor the sort of scene we wouldn't be able to see in real life).

I think the same term covers images created where the whole scene is tone-mapped or where certain areas are masked and blended.
By that definition, the shot with the car is HDR.

I could be wrong.

Anyway, love it! :)
