I think the standard 1300 doesn't even make 65bhp, maybe the GT did? :D

I'm sure some of the best 750mc spec engines have managed about 100bhp.

That's with the +90 overbore (1380cc.) Decking the block to the lowest piston, machining/balancing the remaining 3 and fitting a minimum thickness head gasket would up compression.

Bolting on the GT cam, twin choke weber, air filter and noisy exhaust is really all that remains. 100bhp still seems like an awful lot, maybe it depends on the rolling road you go to ;) The distributor is retained but electronic ignition is ok as long as it's not mapped. There's a minimum weight for the flywheel & clutch assembly too.

The racers muck about with gear ratios though. You can use any production gearbox that was fitted to the Escorts, or a Sierra one. You can also use any production rear diff ratio and there are loads . . .

But no, the races are all down south :(

Thanks for all the comments folks, I'll keep the pictures coming!

My thoughts too. Much respect to someone who builds the *entire* car 8) :thumbsup

Have faith, the 1.1 xflow made 53bhp so I think 65 is right for the 1.3 :-)

As for getting the power levels...never mind that, what will the kerb weight of the car be approx?

OK then.

1.3 std engine (assume 65bhp) = 122 bhp / tonne

1.3 heavily breathed on (assume90 bhp) = 170 bhp / tonne

1.3 bonkers spec (assume 100bhp!) = 189bhp / tonne

My Mk1 XR2 would have been around 120 bhp / tonne and it was quick and chuckable. Standard Elise is in region of 160 bhp / tonne so frankly, you have the makings of a cracking racing car. More power to your spanner, Simon :-)

I saw this in the flesh at the weekend. Respect!

Then as we struggled to mount the lower front wishbone brackets, I got a tiny insight into just how utterly p*ss-poor the instructions are, and with that in mind progress is nothing short of amazing!

Double Respect, my friend!

The bodywork arrived yesterday, I couldn't resist taping it on the car to see how it looked (thumbnails are clickable:)
