British GP 2008 snaps
British GP 2008 snaps
Nowhere near the standards of Jason L, FlatPlaneCrank, and others, but a wee memento of my first ever GP, nonetheless:

Re: British GP 2008 snaps
A good day out, then
Shame about the weather, and shame that Jenson didn't manage to get a result in the wet ... still this weekend looking like it might rain again!
Cheers,
Robin

Some cracking shots in there. Unfortunately it also reminds me of why I stopped going to the British GP in the mid 90s in favour of the Spanish GP. Worked a treat until 95 (I think) when it absolutely poured from start to finish. This was supposedly one of Schumacher's finest races but the history books don't state that he was the only guy on a full wet set up.

Yep, cracking weekend all in actually.
Only had race day tickets so blasted down early on Saturday with Cam and Neil, pitched the camp and enjoyed a leisurely BBQ and the "atmosphere" of Whittlebury Park campsite, listening to the whine of the qualifying and support races from next door!
Got rained into the tent by 9pm, so early bed for early rise at 4.30am
Found a decent "pitch" at exit of Stowe corner and set up camp. That was us for the day.
Really enjoyed it, including support race action. We were prepared for the weather, so it didn't get us down too much and as everyone saw, it made for a cracking race!
All in all the trip cost no more than a couple of hundred pounds a head, including race tickets, which I think it would be hard to better going abroad. However we do really fancy spreading our wings in future, so Valencia, Barcelona etc are on the radar. All about cash, unfortunately, and of course getting value for money!
I also think we may well go to SS again next year, but for the full 3 days, as the campsite fee is a flatrate no matter how long you stay, and the F1 party on the Sunday night could be an experience too

Re: British GP 2008 snaps
I went to Barcelona in 1998 and it worked out that the flights, car hire and race ticket cost the same as a race ticket for Silverstone.
F1 wasn't quite so popular in Spain back then so maybe the tickets will be a tad more expensive now (blame Alonso for that) but it's a spectator friendly track and well worth a visit if you get the chance.

yep that had been my plan a few years back but never got round to it, then kids and also Alonso's stellar form intervened...one day though!Neil72 wrote:I went to Barcelona in 1998 and it worked out that the flights, car hire and race ticket cost the same as a race ticket for Silverstone.

Looks like a great day was had, Campbell
And also looks like you had plenty space on the banking too. I remember being sat in my deckcahir at Druids for the '86 British GP at 0500 IIRC (the enthusiasm of youth!)
...and it was shoulder-to-shoulder, knee-to-chair-back!
I must get along to another GP - not been to one since '88

Re: British GP 2008 snaps
When you win the lottery or otherwise feel like blowing a couple of bags of sand, a seat at the monaco grand prix is hard to beat for the complete F1 experience. Don't waste your money on a ticket for the rock though, atmosphere isn't the same and the view is so poor that you'll be wondering what, if anything, you can see!

Thanks Ken. Gotta hand credit Cameron for his placcy bag waterproofing technique, without which I'd have either no pics or a broken SLR!
