Did a wee bit of detailing . . .

Post by dezzy » Tue Apr 07, 2009 12:27 am

Have neglected my obsessive detailing habit a bit over the winter, so I have just spent over 30 hours spread over 5 days . . . A lot of hard work but well worth it. I've actually managed to remove swirls by hand!! :D :D

If you're interested, the full write-up is on Detailing World here: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/s ... ost1446308

That was the end of the first weekend! Wheels/arches and painted my brake calipers.

So, onto the 2nd weekend . . .

Rinsed, foamed, rinsed, washed with 2 bucket method and lambswool mitt, then R222 autowash and a brush used on the badges/grills/door shuts/etc.

I then clayed the entire car and this is about as bad as it got:

Then, it was time to try Menzerna Intensive Polish. I have Jason Liddell and Polished Bliss to thank for this. I did 2 applications of it. It took a lot of hard work, but was well worth it. Remember this has no fillers - it's a pure abrasive polish. I still can't believe I managed to remove swirls by hand!!

And after . . . not perfect but pretty amazing considering this was by hand!

Next, I filled in any remaining swirls with Autoglym SRP, then sealead with Poorboy's EX-P Sealant, then 2 coats of Poorboy's Natty's Carnuba wax, with 24 hours between 1st and 2nd coat.

I've still to Rain-X the glass, polish the exhaust and do the full interior. But the finished result for the exterior is pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself :D

Some nice beading

So if you see a Magnetic Blue S2 Exige in the West End of Glasgow, no difficulty in deciding whose it is - if you need sunglasses it's Dezzy's; if it's dirty and scuffed on every corner (those KH cones) it's mine...... :)

I only do a job like that about once, maybe twice, per year, so it's worth giving up a few days. And it's just 9 - 5 I'm giving up. Still had something on every night I was working on the car, so my social life and stuff wasn't affected. Just had to give up daytime hours on a Sat/Sun/Fri/Sat/Sun to get it all done :thumbsup

Jason . . . yep, the arms are still recovering!

 whatever tickles your pickle.

I think my girlfriend would leave me if I spent 30 hours washing my car.
