Doune record Evo run...

All characters appearing in this post are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
Any references to laptimes, speed or driving on the public highway are purely for dramatic effect.

Impressive stuff, looks like he could have gone even quicker with the minor off at the bottom of the hill. 8) :thumbsup

Never understood all that effort for less than a minute of action..................

Mind you that's what the other half often says right enough................................

Fantastic vids. The last one of Graeme Wight in particular is just amazing. I have been going to the hillclimb at Doune on and off as a spectator for 20 odd years, and it remains on my list of things to try before I die. It makes track driving look tame in comparison 8)

Some footage albeit brief of the TSE mob on this youtube from last weekend

Jonathan Neal first in Macs car near the beginning, Mac at about 3:19 and myself immediately after . . . you'll see the difference a couple of seconds faster makes Mac ;-)

Question for the hill-climbers - How do the slicks work if you don't get time to warm them up?

The tyres are soft enough to work from cold, they are a specific sprint/hillclimb compound . . . they would last a couple of laps at KH . . . same with the 'road legal' tyres I use, 1, maybe 2 laps of KH and they would be destroyed . . .

Probably also worth saying that the big single seaters are way faster than F1 cars, the GW Jr car has a V10 F1 engine but only weighs a baw hair over 400Kg, an F1 car is 600+Kg . . . they also have virtually no restrictions on aero so are designed to have massive downforce at sub 100mph . . .

Chatting to someone last year at a BBQ at Doune one evening a story was told about the then british hillclimb champ running a Gould chassis and NMR V8 racing engine (probably 100K's worth of kit and the engine is rented) who was invited to do some demo runs at I think the goodwood festival of speed . . . who put some noses out of joint by beating the F1 cars up the hill and refusing to slow down when asked so the F1 cars could be fastest . . . apparently he wasn't asked back . . .
