Delkin Fat Gecko practice shots

Post by smee » Sun May 16, 2010 11:22 pm

When I got back from Alford today the car was still clean so I decide to confuse my neighbours by drivng very slowly with a camera stuck on my car. These are just practice shots, I'll take more time over the real ones but just wanted to familiarise myself with the mount and wireless remote (in my left hand). Whn Ido it properly the engine won't be on and I'll take a bit of time to get the angles etc exactly right but couldn't be bothered today.

Anyway, hints and tips greatly appreciated thanks.

They are really cool!!! I really like them! How did you do that?! Did you just use your normal camera and a stand? And leave it on a long exposure? Or did you use different gear?

Excellent shots! Like Jen, I would like to learn more about the settings etc, that you used!

Oh, that's nice work! :thumbsup

Any chance of a snap of the camera itself mounted to the car?

Thanks guys. I've left my other camera at home but when I get it back I'll take a shot of the setup.
It's basically a ball head mount attached to 2 plungers?!

My camera's weight is right at the limit so I'm careful of where to position it. Shots are between 0.5 and 1 second long at f22 iso 100 and 10mm. I also used a circular polarising filter to help cut down the light allowing the longer exposures and to control the reflections. Manual focus on the car. Car is moving very slowly but road was bumpy and still a lot of vibration coming through. When I do them properly I'll go slower and poss push the car with the engine off. I might use an ND 3 stop filter if I need longer exposures.

The bodywork looks great, as although it's in focus, the reflections are all 'speed blurred'. :thumbsup 8)

Got a bit braver tonight and was hanging the camera off the side of the car. A bit trickier to keep vibration down as it was bobbing about on the bumpy road. Hopefully when the rig arrives can get some better shots.

Andrew, give me a shout at some point, I'll give you some pointers for you snaps as they are rubbish. Half the shot is out of focus for starters!

Top job as ever :thumbsup
