Scottish Elises

I've been worried about the impending thaw and the large amount of snow on the roof above my Elise parked below. Seeing all those videos of snow falling off rooves I wanted to do something about it.

I had been cleaning the snow off the car after the big snow falls but there was increasing amount of piled up snow around the car from various snow moving exploits.





Then, amazingly, my very generous wife (yes she insisted she was given full kudos and rightfully so) decided to help by clearing the snow so we could move the car in front of the garage where it wasn't directly under a pitch roof. She moved a fair amount of snow..


The car almost started after being idle for over a week which was promising so a quick charge gave it enough oompf to start and I left it to go through several heat cycles.



So a big thanks to Louise for getting her weekly exercise by freeing my car and being careful wielding a spade.

Project for the months after the snow is to finally get the car into the garage.

please tell me you went and looked for a big carpark?

Scotty, I'm gagging on some car park fun but this is what the next street looks like... so I wouldn't get out of the estate. Our street is about 0.5ft deep in ice so even getting the car out up onto that would be 'interesting'. We ended up pushing the elise about as it was easier than trying to move it under it's own power.

Why not put it in the garage?

Why are you not just storing it in the garage Ferg! It looked quite empty

I've been working to find homes for all the stuff that's stored in the garage. As it is now I'm almost there, it's been quite a long road as everything in there was destined for some use or other. I also use the garage for DIY duties as we're in the middle of some upgrades. I have plans to put in another garden shed to house more stuff but theres a lot that should go on ebay, like loads of Cossie parts left from the last project(read moneypit).
Getting Louise to agree recently that the car is destined ultimately to live in the garage and be a second car is the most recent development. So maybe quite soon!

Looks much like our street Ferg, although should be much improved tonight with +4 on the thermometer?

Get some grit spread on the tyre tracks alone, run the A-class up and down a few times, and it'll all soon break up.

Good on you....quite a lot of snow to leave on a soft top.

Over the years I have left all types of cars old (upto 20yr old) and new for 3 weeks plus when offshore and no issues at all.

Do elise alarms or somethin cause it to drain more when off or take more than ave to start it up?

Maybe someone has a technical response!

My experience is that a fully armed alarm does drain it fast, esp in cold conditions.

Parked up in the garage with only immob, and might get 2-3 weeks before it starts to struggle but I don't take the chance anymore, and hook up to trickle charger through the winter.

As for releasing from icy tombs, finally dug enough snow off the drive to roll UJI out the garage while I was doing the fitting of some bike hooks in there.

Lisa spotted the small but ominous pool of coolant left behind Seems like Spa, or more likely the extreme cold, has taken its toll. Will need dwarf contortionists's fingers to access the jubilee clip which I hope is all that is to blame, but given the weather forecast it's probably pointless until after Christmas at least
